After winning for the first time ever in NCAA Division I postseason play, the Denver Pioneers could move into uncharted water again Thursday at Maryland in the second round of the National Invitation Tournament. Game time is 5 p.m. MDT and is on ESPNU.

The Pioneers (22-9) have played in three NIT's, but the 61-57 victory Tuesday night over Ohio University at Magness Arena was their first victory. Now if they beat the Terrapins (23-12), it will set a school men's basketball record of 23 victories in a season [read entire article].

One of the broadcasters needs to ask Coach Scott tonight if he is abandoning Boone in favor of a Flub-a-Dub as the mascot for DU. Say it ain’t so Joe.

Good luck tonight, Pioneers. We beat Maryland in lacrosse pretty recently, let's do it in hoops, too.

Interesting to read articles from the Washington/Maryland area with their take on the Pioneers. They think we play S-L-O-W on offense. If anyone has watched us play, the players use motion and the ball moves FAST.

According to some experts, Maryland has trouble with 'structured' offenses and discipline. Run-and-gun against Maryland is a bad idea so we seem well suited to play the Terps with our style of play.

Go Pioneers! See you at MSG.

Your b-ball team has won one post season game in the NIT. Awesome same as your hockey team in the NCAA since 05. In other words YOU SUCK

At least we suck less now.

Thanks for taking the time to read through this blog and its comments. You must care a lot about DU to take the time to do this. And thanks for bringing back memories of 05! It was an amazing time in Columbus, destroying CC and UND on the way to our back-to-back national titles. How sweet it was.

Hope our boys put on a good show on the national telly tonight. Represent, DU! Beat those crab-cake eaters.

How sweet would it be to beat the Twerps in their two signature sports in the same year.

Huge challenge tonight, but DU has a fighting chance. Go Pioneers!!!

Oh please, you beat the lacrosse team in pre-season. Hardly something to brag about. I doubt very seriously DU would beat Maryland in lacrosse now. Hopefully they will meet in the playoffs and then we'll see how it ends.

GO TERPS! Fear the Turtle.

How do we not have 1 player in the final 10 for the Hobey Baker award this is crap

It's simple....DU SUCKS!

Are you the same Twerp that came on this blog before the last DU-Md lacrosse game, and said that DU had no chance to win? If so, welcome back!

Live from St.Paul..... When did DU change their colors to black and yellow?

Jordan said...

Anonymous thinks DU sucks. Noted. Can we move on now?

Jordan said...

Boy, just like predicted, a nice easy game for Maryland.

Wait....

Anonymous said...

Wait.......what???

Anonymous said...

Ha, Maryland takes care of business and the pieholes get nuttin. Were's Boone?

The Terps go to MSG and Denver goes back home......bye now and thanks for playing.

Fear the TURTLE!!!!!!

Really tough loss. Led a good portion of the game, got up by about 9 pts late in the second half, committed a flagrant foul, and Maryland took control. Must have been outscored about 20-2 from that point.

Jordan said...

Point still stands, wasn't an easy win, for those who thought the turtles would win by 30. Tough loss for DU.

Bask in that moral victory for the rest of the off season. You'll have plenty of time for it.

Great effort by DU tonight. Maryland made their shots late, DU didn't. That was the story. Otherwise DU went toe-to-toe. Men's hoops has some real momentum looking ahead to 2013-14.

The anonymous comments are good for a laugh. CC and UND hockey fans?

Good game Denver. You did more than just show up. And yes, your style of play is exactly what drives my Terps crazy. Btw Udofia is a stud and abused us all game long. Like a previous poster said, you went cold at the worst possible time and we started to execute, and that's the story.

DU, on short rest and a 1500 mile plane ride, went in and pushed an ACC team on it's home court for 35 minutes.

We have the eighth youngest team in out of 350 NCAA teams, won a league title and gave an ACC team all it wanted.

Very proud of DU.

If it's so bad for DU fans to celebrate a "moral victory," wouldn't it be worse for Maryland fans to be so excited about a second round NIT game?

Help me out here, I'm obviously not super familiar with the world of the anonymous internet troll.

I will take the moral victory.

Your faux rage tears taste sweet.

Talk about terrible officiating obviously the big east officials were homers for the turtles. At least we shpwed them how to play lax.

Anonymous said...

You 'shpwed' them alright. Show me where in the standings where that preseason win is.

Why are Maryland people trolling on a DU blog? Interesting. Great effort by DU tonight. I thought we would take it. In full control in the second half, but the potentially killer threes weren't falling when they needed to, and Maryland made good adjustments. Proud of the hoops team. This season was a big step forward.
