DU Receivs A Big Time Hoops Commitment

Newman School [New Orleans private school famous for alum Peyton Manning] forward Duke Douglas, The Times-Picayune Small Schools Player of the Year, has committed to play at the University of Denver, the 6-foot-5 forward said on Saturday. 

Douglas averaged 21.0 points and 12.0 rebounds in leading the Greenies to the top overall seed in the Class 2A playoffs and was also named to the Class 2A All-State first team.

"It feels great," Douglas said. "I've put in a lot of hard work since my freshman year and its good to see that work finally paying off." 

 Douglas traveled to Denver on Thursday evening and officially received his offer on Saturday morning. He committed then before flying back to New Orleans. Denver finished last season 22-10 and shared the Western Athletic Conference regular season championship with Louisiana Tech [read entire article].

Newman is Peyton Manning's prep school in New Orleans.

Looks like another great kid!

It's a rule…you have to be 6'5" to touch a basketball in the DU system.

Any idea why no one else recruited this kid. This is pretty late in the game to be signing for next fall.

This is a perfect Mid-Major recruit. He was from a small school so probably did not compete against the large schools. Guys like this slip thru the cracks. Also, the largest schools want a kid to be 6'7" at forward. He is probably not a good enough ball handler to be a guard so he slips thru the cracks.

His size and athleticism will probably fit perfectly under Joe's system.
