One Final News & Notes From Around PioNation

New University of Denver head hockey coach Jim Montgomery is profiled today in the Denver Post.  The article covers everything from his development in youth hockey to his professional career and his rise in the coaching ranks.
----------
Looks like DU's move to the Big East conference came just in the nick of time.  Today Johns Hopkins will announce they are moving to the Big Ten conference in lacrosse.  The departure of DU, Ohio State & Michigan this year and Loyola and Notre Dame in recent years decimated the ECAC.
----------
After eight years, 1.5 million visits, 5755 posts, 32,596 reader comments and countless laughs; LetsGoDU is ceasing operations today.  LetsGoDU averaged 30 visits a day in 2005 to almost a thousand visits per day in recent years and its been a wonderful journey.  We launched a mascot, built school spirit to unprecedented heights, covered many epic victories and more than a few heartbreaking DU losses.  To those who supported DU through this Blog [du78 & many others] and helped PioNation fight the good fight, we say thank you.  To the many DU students who shared our vision and supported school spirit and Boone, you helped change the culture at the University of Denver for the better.  Like Boone, LetsGoDU is leaving on top.

Damien has:

Founded the bleacher creatures
Served on many spirit committees
Led cheering sections
Travelled to dozen of DU games
Hosted and promoted events
Funded many spirit activities with pep band
Consulted with Many in athletic dept
Helped students fundraiser
Developed lets go DU long before Boone
Contributed thousands to DU athletics
And developed the best mascot DU has ever had...

I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone with a more comprehensive impact on DU spirit than Damien...

If there are say 10 to 11000 students. Does that mean 64 to 65000 faculty and staff?

(Just posted this on the mascot heading above - not sure if it'll ever get read there...so I'm copying and pasting. Sue me if you don't like it. Anyway...)

I actually like the mountaineer.

Dare I say that I like it better than the most recent iteration of Boone, which, to me, always brought to mind the vaguely disturbingly image of a pedophile who had just gotten away with groping a 5 year old.

Like this guy.

Sorry, DG...just call 'em like I see 'em...

(The above said, I'm not sure what the hell the dog has to do with anything. Though, I do really like Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs...)

Oh. And the elk blows.

Its not the mascot that's the issue at this point, its the process.

At the end of the survey (which I put zeros down the line) they gave an email address:

dumascot (at] DU .dot. EDI

I think it will go into the dustbin, but you can always voice your support of Boone there. I did.

I 2013, you cannot create a mascot carrying an ice pick.
If we want something representative of the Rockies, how about a Snowman or a Snowball?
