(above) Boone was a popular attraction on Saturday night at Magness Arena
Sam Brittain recorded a shutout for the second straight night and the University of Denver rolled to a 4-0 victory over Merrimack College at Magness Arena.

DU's elite blueliners recorded the first three goals of the game with Joey LaLeggia, Will Butcher and David Makowski scoring goals.

Daniel Doremus added his second goal in two nights.

Needless to say Great Brittain just got off to the greatest goaltender start in DU history. Wow.

Tip of the hat to Boone, too. Grabbing one of those "must show" advertising posters from the young women was pure inspiration. Piovision is apparently under contract to show them, even if Boone is holding one. Genius. You can't keep a good mascot down.

Awesome game for Brittain, but even better for Doremus - impressed with his play. Will this help the rankings? Eh.

Mile High Hockey's game recap mentions Boone's appearance.

Fun times.

Damian I'm glad to see the blog and costume resurrected and have been away for a while but must have missed a memo. When last I checked in both were being mothballed...?

Terrific weekend and start for this young DU team. I have no idea how good Merrimack is, but I am psyched to see DU start 2-0.

Merrimack was ranked 7th in HE preseason poll. But it still had All Conference/All American type players, Collins and Haywood. Neither scored (obviously) and that is good news.

This weekend in Alaska will be interesting. UAA is 2-0-0. UAf 2-0-1 I think. Against Air Force and Quinnipiac.

What a nice surprise sweep this weekend. Congratulations to Sam on the shutouts! Sam is truly responsible the success this weekend. I’m thinking Makowski is the front runner for the C after watching his play. Danny Doremus continues his scoring streak. Ty Loney had a highlight reel assist on Saturday and his game just keeps improving. The freshmen made a splash. Marcinew has a nose for the puck. His style of play reminds me of a lot of Jason Zucker. Hawkinson is out there banging away with a sore shoulder. Our upperclassmen could take a lesson from this kid. Janssen shows promise. Butcher showed that when you throw the puck at the net good things happen. Not every opposing goalie will be as sieve-ish but a goal is a goal. And a sweep is a sweep. DU has a looooong way to go. They turned over the puck way to often in their own zone but Merrimack couldn’t capitalize. In fact the breakaway given up by little Matt VanVoorhis actually turned into a DU goal during the 5 on 3 power play (Great stop Sam! DU really needs to rethink VanVoorhis on point) . DU had trouble scoring Friday night but 1 point was enough for the W. DU looked more like a bunch of individual players than a real team but at this point in the season it worked. 2-0 Great start.
