Did Anonymous LGDU Reader Solve Display Mystery?

Yesterday, LGDU posted a picture of the lacrosse champions display at Magness Arena. The display featured the NCAA D-1 trophy and memorabilia for the national champs. The #55 jersey was prominently displayed. LGDU searched Google for #55 assuming it was Wes Berg, the championship game MVP. It didn't seem right but, sure enough, Google images had Berg in a #55 Denver jersey.

An anonymous reader quickly pointed out that Berg was, of course, #14 as a Denver Pioneer. After searching Google again, LGDU realized this was his Denver Outlaw jersey number was 55! Did the athletic department make the same mistake when putting together the display? LGDU is following with the athletic department for a response. Or, does the display feature "rarely used player Todd Fedych" (per anonymous reader)?

I would assume that Berg's original #14 jersey was (or will be) given to him at the senior banquet. It is traditional for graduating seniors to receive their jerseys at the year-end banquet as a thank you for their service and a memento of their time on the team. I assume it was not an "error" by the person creating the display, they probably just found the cleanest jersey with the championship patch to display.

Tim is probably correct. I don't think the display creator cared what number the jersey is in the display - only that there was a DU jersey to place there.

Fedyck is no longer on the roster nor enrolled at DU, as far as I know.

Plus, that 55 with the number design in front of the crimson looks DAMN good. Whoever put the whole thing together did a great job.

Also, I couldn't capture it in the picture, but there is a really cool two-tone mountain landscape on the bottom of the numbers both front and back.

While #55 looks good, don't we want our MVP's jersey featured?

I have a feeling that Wes would want to keep his jerseys from this year, to be honest.

The college sports Ponzi Scheme will soon be coming to an end.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/21/espn-layoffs-sports-netwo_n_3313520.html

ESPN announced this week a $100,000,000 budget cut & 400 layoffs including closing the ESPN offices in the Denver Tech Center. Next year they're going to trim another $250,000,000 and expect the layoffs to be over 1,000.

Three things are driving this: 3 million people are dropping cable TV per year [costing ESPN $6.67 per household per month], millenials aren't watching sports on TV & fragmentation of the auto, beer and other industries that heavily advertise on TV are killing ad revenues.

College lacrosse will surely be impacted, as will college hoops & football....

If the Ponzi scheme comes to an end, DU is in good shape. DU is not dependent on this revenue to the degree the 'football schools, are. The gravy train had to end!

Great post, DG.

DU might not be affected by the revenues, but would be affected by less TV coverage of minor sports such as Lacrosse, and to a lesser extent, hockey.

The future of TV sports for schools like DU is going to be more Internet streaming telecasts rather than Cable or Satellite TV.
