Vikings Sack Mascot; UND Schedules Team Name Vote

Despite pleas of 'Free Ragner' (the Viking mascot) from football fans, it appears that another mascot bites the dust. The following cryptic note from the Vikings:

"The Vikings greatly appreciate what Ragnar has meant to the organization and to the fans over the last two decades. We intend to honor his 21 seasons on the field during a 2015 Vikings home game and we will welcome him to future ceremonial events. We will always consider Ragnar an important part of Vikings history."

Sound familiar? In other words..."you're fired".

In other news, University of North Dakota stakeholders begin on-line voting on Monday October 19rd thru Friday, October 23rd on a new team name to replace Fighting Sioux. Students, faculty, staff, retirees, alums, and season ticket holders will vote. The names under consideration are:

  • Fighting Hawks
  • Nodaks
  • North Stars
  • Roughriders
  • Sundogs
In early preference voting on the top UND blog, Goon's World, Roughriders holds 34% of the votes followed by Fighting Hawks with 24%
