CHN Looks At ".500 Rule" That Threatens NCAA Bids

College Hockey News has the latest on the Pairwise controversy that threatened to exclude UMD, Minnesota and/or MSU-M from the NCAA Tournament. Turns out there was a "mistake" in the 2008 NCAA Handbook.

"The Internet was abuzz Tuesday as word began to spread that the latest revision to the NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Championships Handbook contained a new provision. Now, there have been a lot of changes, tweaks, etc... to the selection criteria and process over the years, and we've religiously followed them all. But this one was new to us. Tipped off by CHN reporters Brett Gobe and Ron Ayers, it seems that the handbook contained the following new line: "To be considered during the at-large selection process, a team must have an overall won-lost record of .500 or better." It sure is nice of College Hockey News to allow me to write the CHN Penalty Box Column. And I have to admit I like writing the stories. But sooner or later I was going to revert back to my old form, and take unnecessary cheap shots at Colorado College, North Dakota, Wisconsin and Minnesota.

This week I hit all four schools at once under the guise of the "hockey gods." Due to a typographical error, it looks like the article was written by Chris Dilks, who runs the straight laced, but respected Western College Hockey Blog.

Chris may have a heart attack when he figures all of this out. I think I'm going to sit back and see what happens. Is that wrong?

This week the CHN's Penalty Box investigates what eventually happened to the Yale hockey & football players who had a disagreement in the wee hours in front of New Haven's trendiest takeaway bistro. I think you'll be surprised to know that being handcuffed and placed in the back of a police car doesn't qualify as being "arrested" in Connecticut.

CHN Penalty Box Joins Forces W/ LetsGoDU

College Hockey News Editor Adam Wodon wanted to add some biting humor to his Website. After an intensive negotiating session, the LetsGoDU Board of Directors reached an agreement with CHN that a column named "CHN's The Penalty Box" would be penned once a week.

The column is named after the legendary Penalty Box Bar (photo above) in Boston, located next to the Fleet Center. The bar holds many memories for DU fans during the miraculous Frozen Four Run in 2004.

The first article this week is the ever popular "Love Story."
