Matt Donovan Asks Questions Of El Capitán
DU hockey alum Matt Donovan was so eager to get involved in the first-ever "Pioneer Minute" that he fired off six questions for DU hockey captain Paul Philllips.
Fans can also take part in the first-ever
"Pioneer Minute" series and submit questions for their favorite
Pioneers.
DU hockey senior captain Paul Phillips is the first "Pioneer Minute" student-athlete of the series.
Submit your questions via the Denver Pioneers' Facebook Fan Page or the @DU_Pioneers
twitter feed. Questions will be collected until Tuesday at Noon MT.
Phillips will then sit down to answer
all your questions on camera. The video will then be posted on the Denver
Pioneers' Facebook Fan Page and to the @DU_Pioneers twitter feed at the end of
each week.

DU Senior David Carle was hired this week by the USHL Green Bay Gamblers according to Mike Chambers of the Denver Post.

For the second straight year the DU basketball program posted an NCAA Top Ten improvement in attendance. Not only that, but they led the Sunbelt conference in attendance.

The DU Athletics Website has details on some honors picked up by two DU basketball players. Chris Udofia was named Sunbelt Defensive Player of the Year and 1st Team All-Sunbelt Conference team. Brian Stafford was named 2nd Team All-Sunbelt Conference Team.

Three DU Recruits Sign National Letters Of Intent
The University of Denver has signed three players to National Letters of Intent, Associate Head Coach Steve Miller announced Thursday. Forward Quentin Shore, and defensemen Nolan Zajac and Dakota Mermis have inked NLIs to play for the Pioneers beginning in 2012-13 (read entire article).

DU Faces Colorado College On Saturday Night
The University of Denver hockey team hosts #3 Colorado College on Saturday night. Puck drop is set for 7 PM MT at Magness Arena. The game will not be televised but will webcast live on Pioneer Vision and broadcast live on 102.3 The TICKET. Stats, game notes & Live Blog are available at DenverPioneers.com.
The Pioneer Pregame BBQ will be from 5-7 PM. The DU Grilling Society will be on hand to pass out FREE BBQ to the fans, students and alumni for as long as the food lasts. A beer garden, student organization tents & Boone T-shirts will be available..

LetsGoDU will be sponsoring a pregame get together at the new Boone's Tavern on Saturday afternoon from 2:30-5 PM. Boone will be on hand to pose for photos and is selling T-shirts. Boone's Tavern is located accross the street from Morgan's on 1135 East Evans Avenue.

University of Denver lacrosse coach Bill Tierney announced that the Pioneers will play Cornell University on Tuesday, March 20 at Hofstra's James M. Shuart Stadium in Hempstead, N.Y Opening face-off is slated for 2 PM MT.
"The goal for the University of Denver Men's Lacrosse program is to play the best schedule and against the best teams available," Coach Tierney said. "Cornell University has one of the most storied programs in the country and its 2012 team will offer the Pioneers a huge challenge, but one we look forward to. When Coach DeLuca provided us the opportunity to compete with Cornell over spring break, on Long Island, we could not pass it up. The NCAA rewards strength of schedule greatly and with the addition of the Big Red and their outstanding group of players, we have made our schedule even stronger. Our ECAC slate and non-league games against Duke, Notre Dame and now Cornell provides our young men with one of the most challenging schedules in the country."
DU Athletics Inks Deal With CBS Collegiate Sports
The University of Denver Athletic Department and CBS Collegiate Sports Properties have reached accord on an eight-year strategic partnership in support of Multi-Media Rights representation for the Pioneers' Athletic programs. The agreement will begin immediately and run through June of 2019. DU Athletics is being recognized today with dual proclamations from Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper and Denver Mayor Michael Hancock who are declaring Oct. 22, 2011 “University of Denver Pioneer Athletics Day.”
In honor of that, tonight's game is being broadcast for FREE on Facebook.
DU Hosts McGill In Exhibition Opener On Saturday
The University of Denver hockey team opens the exhibition season on Saturday night at Magness Arena against McGill University from Montreal.
Puck drop for the exhibition tilt will be at 7 PM.. The game will be webcast live on Pioneer Vision, while live stats and live in-game blog are also available at DenverPioneers.com.
Tidbit Trivia: On March 3, 1875 the first organized indoor game was played at Montreal's Victoria Skating Rink by several McGill University students. In 1877, several McGill students codified seven ice hockey rules. The McGill University Hockey Club - later re-christened "The Redmen" - was founded in 1877, arguably making the McGill Redmen the oldest ice hockey club in the world still playing.

The University of Denver Division of Athletics hosted its fourth annual Pioneer Pep Rally before the largest freshmen class in school history Sunday night at Magness Arena. All first-year and transfer students and their parents were invited to the festivities from 8-9 p.m. MT.
"Voice of the Pioneers" Mitch Hyder served as the emcee for the event which introduced DU athletics, traditions, coaches, student-athletes and facilities to the students and their parents.
The event was kicked off by the DU student-athletes welcoming the first-year and transfer students. Photos of DU's on-campus facilities were shown along with Learfield Directors' Cup celebration and 2010-11 athletics highlights videos.
DU Student Body President Sam Gerk and Vice President Olivia Hails spoke about Pioneer traditions and events before a video of the Official Ritchie Center Student Entrance was shown.
Pioneer head coaches were introduced and the coaches threw select gear into the eager crowd. Volleyball player Faimie Kingsley and men's soccer player Drew Beckie talked to the students about the Student Athletic Advisory Council and Orientation Leader J.P. Griego also addressed the crowd.
DU hockey captains Dustin Jackson and Drew Shore encouraged attendance for the Student Season Ticket Campout on Sept. 24 and the rest of the Pioneer hockey players passed out donuts.
The students threw mini basketballs from the stands in hopes of winning a duffle bag full of DU merchandise, and the evening ended with the singing of the DU fight song.

After the pros completed the drills they were joined on the ice by several current Pioneer players. The performances of Drew Shore, Nick Shore and Adam Murray caught the attention of the former DU stars.

The Hockey News' 2011-12 Yearbook recently rated the Top 10 prospects of every NHL team. Of the 78 players with current, former or future college ties, DU had the most number of players listed with 10. Tied for second were the Minnesota Gophers and Boston College with seven apiece.

The University of Colorado's starting punter this Fall was offered a opportunity to walk-on DU's basketball team, but choose to go to CU instead. Keep an eye on Darragh O'Neill, he sounds like a heck of an athlete.

The University of Denver's men's basketball team was bolstered with the announcement that forward Rob Lewis has been granted an extra year of eligibility because of a back injury last season. Lewis is in a master's degree program at DU.
Zucker & Nick Shore Invited To USA Tryouts

University of Denver sophomore forwards Jason Zucker and Nick Shore are among 40 skaters invited by USA Hockey to take part in its National Junior Evaluation Camp this August in Lake Placid, N.Y. The players will be auditioning for a spot on the U.S. National Junior Team that will take part in the 2012 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship, Dec. 26-Jan. 5 in Calgary and Edmonton [read entire article].
