DENVER - The University of Denver hockey team has announced the signing of two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. Center Tyler Bozak (Regina, Saskatchewan) and defenseman John Lee (Moorhead, MN.) have officially announced they will attend DU and play hockey for the seven-time NCAA National Champions.
Bozak is a strong-skating, playmaking center for the Victoria Grizzlies of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). The 6-foot, 165-pound center leads the BCHL in scoring with 67 points on 21 goals and 46 assists in 28 games. Bozak has captained the Grizzlies to a 23-4-1 record and second-place standing in the Coastal Conference. Bozak tallied a team-leading 69 points on 31 goals and 38 assists for Victoria in 2005-06. He is the son of Karon and Mitch Bozak.
"Tyler is a fierce competitor," DU assistant coach/recruiting coordinator Steve Miller said. "He wins draws, finishes checks and blocks shots. He has led his team to a great start and leads the league in scoring."
Lee is physical defenseman for Moorhead (Minn.) High School. The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder has led the Spuds to a 2-0 record after tallying five points on one goal and four assists in 10 games for the East Division leading Waterloo Black Hawks (12-3-2) of the United States Hockey League (USHL). Lee was a member of the USA Hockey Select 17 Festival last summer and recently participated in the USA Hockey Junior Jamboree in Blaine, Minn. Lee is rated as a "Player to Watch" among "A" players this season by NHL Central Scouting. He is the son of Carol and Richard Lee.
"John has a great presence on the ice," Miller said. "He is a very good passer who has a great understanding of how the game is meant to be played. John has good size and is a physical defenseman."
Bozak and Lee join forwards Jesse Martin (Edmonton, Alberta) and Kyle Ostrow (Calgary, Alberta) and goaltender Marc Cheverie (Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia) as players who have signed National Letters of Intent for the Pioneers.
