Ruegsegger Named WCHA Rookie Of The Week
MADISON, Wisc. - University of Denver center iceman Tyler Ruegsegger, who scored three goals - including both game-winners - to help propel the Pioneers to a two-game non-conference sweep over visiting Niagara University last weekend, has been named Red Baron WCHA Rookie of the Week.
A 5-11, 180-pound freshman from Lakewood, Colo., and a draft choice of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs, Ruegsegger notched the game-winning goal on a power-play at 4:53 of overtime to boost Denver to a 2-1 victory over the Purple Eagles last Friday (Jan. 12) night at Magness Arena.
Then last Saturday (Jan. 13) evening, Ruegsegger scored two more goals, including the eventual game-winner on a power-play at 19:02 of the second period, as the Pioneers completed the sweep over Niagara with a 5-2 triumph.
In addition to his three goals in the series, Ruegsegger was named the game's First Star on both nights and fired five shots on goal.
One of the top-scoring rookies in the WCHA this season (tied for 5th), Ruegseeger has 11 goals, 13 assists and 24 points in 26 games played.
