What's the consensus on Cheverie? Is he a legit #1 goalie recruit? I understand he has good size but has had an inconsistent year and hasn't played much recently. Is he a guy that DU anticipates taking over for Mannino in 2008-09?

Cheverie was drafted by the Florida Panthers, so he obviously has all the intangibles.

We don't know if Chevy has a nagging injury right now that might explain his lack of starts over the past two weeks.

DU's goaltender coach, Derek Lelond, did a great job with Fisher this year so you hope that whatever's ailing Cheverie can be quickly fixed with coaching.

DU loves his size and they're excited to get to work on him.

To answer your question, he's a legit recruit with tons of potential that possesses the one thing you can't coach...height.

DU probably does some things defensively that will probably make things easier for Cheverie including blocking shots, a solid penalty kill and better quality defensemen that he currently has in the BCHL.

I've heard that the DU coaches are well aware of his struggles this season and are confident that they have the right recruit. They love his "upside potential."

That being said, I'm sure everyone at DU would prefer that Chevy was getting some prime playoff experience right now instead of sitting on the bench.

I guess at the end of the day, even if Chevy was having an all-star year in Nanaimo, Mannino would get 30+ starts next season anyway. This way Chevy comes in witha chip on his shoulder and something to prove next season.

Cheverie's been inconsistent this year, and I think the coaching staff in Nanaimo lost some faith in him. It suprrised me that Garman came back from a concussion so early and has gotten more or less all the playoff starts.

Cornell went hard after Cheverie, and we were really bummed when he chose DU. A strange turn of events that we ended up with the Nanaimo goaltender from Colorado.

Cheverie played very well last year, I'm sure that with a change of scenery he'll get his confidence back and be a very solid netminder for DU.
