DU Plucks Another Recruit From CC's Backyard
John Ryder Will Replace Seabrook On The Blueline
Heisenberg's Website & Western College Hockey Blog are reporting that DU has signed a last minute defensive recruit to replace Keith Seabrook. John Ryder from Colorado Springs will play at the University of Denver this upcoming season.

Ryder is 6'1, 190 lbs. defensive defenseman, who notched two goals and four assists in 50 games for the Ohio Blue Junior Jackets in the USHL. Ryder was described as "a tough kid with tremendous character" by his USHL coach.

He played his youth hockey with the Pikes Peak Miners midget program in Colorado Springs. Most DU fans remember that two time National Champion Luke Fulghum also arrived at DU via the Springs.

He looks slightly like Ryan Smyth, though with a less dented face

he probably sucks a lot more though. i dont think that du plucked this kid from cc's backyard either. du is making some desperate pickups. these are kids that were either looked over by all the schools or should be 2008 class.

What DU needs are players who aren't going to bail on the program after one year to the WHL.

11 incoming Freshmen are a lot to digest, but we'll take along with two NC's.

So is his nick name Ryder Truck? :)

I feel Ryder is a quality player. Probably could have used another year in the USHL though.

With Thomas' graduation at the end of the season and Butler likely taking a serious look at pro hockey at the end of this season, DU was probably desperate to build up its blueline depth. If they took Ryder a year early, its probably still a good move.

Hopefully Ryder can develop into a good player. Plus more depth is never a bad thing.

His nickname should be The Hitcher, after the main character in the B-movie horror classic by the same name.

So, was he out mowing the campus lawn when Gwoz came calling?

Congrats on another recruiting coup.

Just another example of CC blowing off the Colorado kids. Oops, I forgot, CC did have that phenom and Findlay refugee Brandon Straub.
