2001 Littleton Hawks AA Peewee "Dream Team"

Mike Chambers Blog this week contains an article about the 2001 Littleton Hawks AA Peewee team that won the first youth hockey national title in Colorado history. Five players from that team ended up playing Division I college hockey.

We’ve had several items in the paper and in my blog about the connection with DU sophomore center Tyler Ruegsegger and CC freshman goalie Richard Bachman.

Turns out that DU freshman defenseman Chris Nutini, Minnesota State forward Zach Harrison, and Air Force freshman defenseman Brad Sellers also were on the 2001 Littleton Hawks team that won a national championship.

Nutini has played in four of six games for DU, and has scored a goal. Harrison and Sellers are scoreless on the season but have each played in their teams’ two games.

Another kid from the Kent Murphy-coached ‘01 Hawks team, Justin Brossman, is in the USHL and reportedly wants to play at DU and CC.

“It is interesting how so many players from that team are playing Division I hockey,” Nutini said. “At the time I was young and didn’t know much about college hockey, so I didn’t look that far ahead.”

Nutini does not come from a hockey family and said the Avs arrival in 1996 wasn’t his primary motivation to take up the sport.

“Mighty Ducks,” he said. “I used to love that movie.”

You guys take Brossman. If he really wants to play at *both* CC and DU, I don't think he could cut it at CC. ;-)

Obviously you aren't familiar with the terms "safety school" and "DU rejects."

Anyway, if it's a Colorado kid we always want them to see do well where ever they end up. You'd think that after Fulgham, Dingle & Ruegsegger CC would start taking the local kids...

Does the name 'Bachman' strike a familiar note?

Why would we want Bachman when we have a Chevy in the garage?

Who is Bachman?
