DU Recruit Jumps From High School To USHL

DU's most recent recruit, Stephan Novotny, recently joined the Indiana Ice of the USHL after spending the first semester at Shattuck St. Mary's boarding school in Fairbault, Minnesota. Novotny scored 29 points in 22 games at St. Mary's.

It has been reported that Novotny will be enrolling at DU next season, so perhaps this move is designed to get him experience to ease the transition to college hockey. Novotny is a potential NHL prospect and will be eligible for the 2009 NHL Draft.

Former DU player Scott McConnell is the Associate Head Coach of the Indiana Ice.

Does anyone think this might be a short term deal while Shattuck is on break (Novotny would return later)? Or has he left school?

There is no eligibility issue to go back and forth betrween HS and Juniors.

I checked the Shattuck St. Mary's schedule and in past years they've played right through Christmas.

I'm guessing he's with Indiana Ice for the rest of the season, but we'll continue to look into it.

Shattucks 2005-06 Schedule or Google it.

He is gone. No longer listed on SSM roster. Listed on Indy roster (-5 in 2 games ouch!) Will be interesting to see how SSM does against Culver this weekend without him.

Anon,

Thanks for the confirmation. Novotny's -5 came in his first game that Indiana lost 10-3.

Its got to be a tremendous jump in quality of play from Shattuck to the USHL despite the fact that SSM has so many quality players.

Indiana has a great website so it will be a little easier to chart his progress.
