BU Players Suspended For Drinking After A Wake

Question: Whats the difference between an Irish Wake and an Irish Wedding?

Answer:
One less drunken Irishman. Um...check that, its now one less drunken Irishman and four Boston University hockey players, if the wake is held on a Sunday. Turns out that drinking on Sundays is against BU team rules.

Four Boston University men's hockey players were suspended "indefinitely" Wednesday for violating team rules, a school official confirmed.

The four players suspended include senior captain Brian McGuirk, seniors Bryan Ewing and Dan McGoff and junior Brandon Yip.

"Obviously, the guys that were suspended are unhappy and the guys that took their place are very happy," BU coach Jack Parker said. "But I don't think anybody's happy that this has happened. I don't think anybody's happy that their teammates have been suspended indefinitely."

The suspensions follow a two-game weekend during which the Terriers dropped both contests to the rival Boston College. Yip scored two of the Terriers' five goals on the weekend, while McGuirk was a healthy scratch for the second game of the series -- a 4-3 BU loss at Agganis Arena.

The USCHO Message Board poster Shy Terrier posted the salacious details.
For those of you who are interested in the truth about the BU suspensions, to put it in a nutshell, this is what happened:

1. Some of the players attended a wake on Sunday for another player's family member

2. Later that day, the 4 in question went out to a pub to watch football and each had a few beers. These players are all 21.

HOWEVER, it is against team rules to drink on certain days and Sunday was one of them. The players were seen by someone and a comment was made to someone close to Parker, and Parker was told.

The players admit they broke the rules.

It was nothing earth shattering.

The media has run with this and I don't want speculation out there. I want the truth out there.

This information came from a trusted source and I won't say anything more on the topic.

However, this person wanted the truth put out there to stop any wild rumors that may be developing.
