ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Senior goaltender Peter Mannino (Farmington Hills, Mich.) stopped 25 shots and sophomore Brock Trotter (Brandon, Manitoba) tallied the game-winning goal as the No. 4/5 Denver Pioneers defeated No. 14 St. Cloud State, 3-2, in WCHA action tonight at National Hockey Center.

DU improves to 11-4 overall and 8-3 in the WCHA, while SCSU falls to 7-6-2, 3-5-1 with its fourth consecutive loss.

“I thought our ability to stop St. Cloud State’s power play was a key tonight,” DU head coach George Gwozdecky said. “Peter was our rock in net and we never trailed in the game.”

Trotter netted the game-winner when he batted a rebound off a shot by Tyler Bozak (Regina, Saskatchewan) from the low slot at 6:05 of the final period.

Jesse Martin (Edmonton, Alberta) staked the Pioneers to a 1-0 lead at 3:54 of the second period. Andreas Nodl tied the game at 1-1 at 1:05 of the third. Rhett Rakhshani (Huntington Beach, Calif.) gave DU a brief 2-1 lead 25 seconds later, but Garrett Roe nailed the equalizer less than two minutes later on a nifty goal from the left goal line.
