Colorado College Breaks Air Force Player's Leg

On the heels of one of the biggest victories in Air Force's history, a 5-2 win against DU on Friday, the Falcons took aim at another Front Range power Saturday but suffered their second consecutive 2-1 loss to crosstown rival Colorado College.

More discouraging to AFA than the narrow setback was the loss of senior center Eric Ehn, a Hobey Baker Award finalist last season who suffered a lower leg injury when he crashed feet-first into the boards early in the third period. Ehn, went for X-rays on a right leg injury above the ankle after a nasty collision behind CC’s net with Sweatt just 73 seconds into the third period.

“They had a 3-on-2 rush and I took him,” Sweatt said. “I tried to lift up his stick and he fell. His body twisted around. . . . It was just a freak accident.”

Ehn was carried off the ice on a stretcher, and his status will be re-evaluated early this week. Ehn hasn't quite produced at the prolific pace he did last season, yet the Falcons' improved balance on offense can be attributed largely to the attention Ehn garners from defenses.
