DU Beats Notre Dame 5-2 In Hall Of Fame Game

Freshman Luke Salazar scored two goals on Saturday night, including the game winner, to fuel DU's 5-2 win over Notre Dame in the US Hockey Hall of Fame Game in Magness Arean. The DU win capped a special weekend in Denver which included the induction of Brett Hull, Brian Leetch, Mike Richter and Cammi Granato into the US Hockey Hall of Fame.

Salazar had two goals and an assist to lead the way. Tyler Ruegsegger, Patrick Wiercioch and Anthony Maiani had the other DU goals. Goalie Marc "Chevy" Cheverie was outstanding in net for DU with 23 saves. He definitely saved DU's bacon several times in a penalty filled 2nd period.

Really dissapointed with Colborne, but thought Salazr, Wiercioch and Chevy played like studs last night

I said it after the exhibition game, I don't see any hustle or enthusiasm from Colborne. I hope he has been reading his press clippings.

On another note, great party and T-shirts. DG, thanks again for all of your efforts.

Dadgum, I missed the party, internet was out for some time leading up to the game ... arg.

Game was fun, but DU looked like they were sleepwalking for the first 15 mins, getting shoved around, when the boys woke up, it was on ...

Give Super Joe time to warm up, it's a new level of competition, if he thought NCAA hockey was on the same level as what he was playing, he's mistaken, he'll pick it up ... he's also spending a ton of time in the gym, trying to bulk up for the NHL, that may be too much too fast ... say, look at what a 150-pound walk on can do!

It was a great game. ND has a ton of talent and discipline and the trap was really working against DU. I think all the penalty kills really tired them out and once they were down it just came apart.

I think you guys are premature to get all over Colbourne. The expectations are through the roof. He's a young freshman with a lot of pressure on him--let him be, he'll mature. It was his first NCAA game people! Maybe he'll walk on water next weekend!

I think this game may be turning point in terms of school spirit. The student section was just great tonight, and I can see them playing a much more important role in helping the team in making Magness a more difficult arena for opponents, and more attractive to recruits.

Bravo to all who brought it..

I didn't think the student section was great. It was quiet as always. Very few times you could hear them in section 2.

I thought the Student Section was pretty good. We sat in Section 20 up high and could hear the "Boone chants" and the like.

Was down in the student section in the third period and it was really loud.

Acoustics and a very high roof could be part of the problem, but the main issue is getting the rest of the arena to join in.

Surprised to read that some didn't think the students did a great job, because I thought is was probably the best opening night for them in years.

Perhaps some mikes could be used to help them out....Nonetheless its great to get feedback both positive and negative, so keep posting comments and we'll pass the info along.

My seat is right next to the student section, so I had no problem hearing them!

Sorry, guys. Student section probably didn't have as much incessant hassling of the bungling refs cause I'm in Australia for fall quarter. It'll get louder when I get back.

Exposure of the ref's pure incompetence is a passion of mine, I must say.

It should be a great season...let's see, North Dakota lost twice, DU beat the #3 team and CC played a non ranked team...I know it's early but we should see some movement this week in the rankings.

Great victory over a tough opponent to start off the season! Notre Dame was a big challenge for the 1st game and carried the play early on for sure. DU had trouble in the 1st with a hard forecheck, as we have seen in the past. But as the game went DU improved greatly and was definitely the better team in the
2nd and 3rd periods.

Chevy looked great between the pipes. He really stood tall in several sequences. DU can really skate and will be fun to watch this year. Colborne will be fine--we're only one game in.

The refs called far too many penalities and screwed up the flow of the game on too many occasions.

I thought the crowd was good, loud and lively.

Geez folks, get off Colborne's back. The kid has played in a grand total of 2 games at the college level. He didn't touch the puck all that much against ND but he'll get his chances. It's a long season.
