(above) Matt Donovan (#5) was one of six players who signed National Letters of Intent to join DU next season
No real surprise to regular readers of our blog, but the University of Denver hockey team announced the signing six players to national letters of intent. The players are Matt Donovan, Edmond, Okla.; Adam Murray, Anchorage, Alaska; Shawn Ostrow, Calgary, Alberta; Paul Phillips, Darien, Ill.; Drew Shore, Denver; and William Wrenn, Anchorage, Alaska.
Donovan was picked in the fourth round, 96th overall, by the New York Islanders in this year's NHL draft. The other players will be eligible for the 2009 NHL Draft in June.
The six players are expected to be joined by recruited walk-on Chris Knowlton next Fall at DU.

So are these kids good? Did we get everyone we wanted? Are we gonna win another national title?
Will there be room for all these guys on next year's squad??
Are these guys good? Yes
Did we get everyone we wanted? Maybe
Are we going to win a NC? Of course
Will there be room? Probably
____________
Donovan was drafted by the Islanders last year.
Shore is expected to be a 1st Round Draft Choice.
Wrenn is expected to go in the 2nd Round
Phillips may go in the 3rd, but we think he may go higher.
Murray & Ostrow could be drafted.
___________
Marcuzzi, Testwuide & Mullen graduate. Bozak is a 98% "mortal lock" to go early. Rakhshani, Ruegsegger, Colborne, Wiercioch are "flight risks."
We don't know that every recruit that signed a LOI has a full scholie. Some may be on 1/2 or 3/4 deals.
Sounds complicated? It is. :-)
If that other kid from the U-18 team signs is that the icing on the cake? Is he the only other recruit on the radar?
Tyler R. and Rhett are really flight risks? Seems those guys would be better off playing another year and getting their degrees.....
Anon 12:14 - The other kid is Jeremy Morin. Don't know what the odds are for DU get him. Comments have been left here that BU is his first choice, don't know how accurate they are. Also the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL are pursuing him heavily and the posiibility exists he may not go the college route. This has been published several times in the Canadian press. If he decides to come to DU I am sure Gwoz would welcome him with open arms.
Anon 12:17 - As far as Tyler and Rhett being flight risks, there are a lot of factors that will go into those decisions. Both the Islanders and Toronto seem to be happy with their development at DU. Also Tyler and Rhett seem to like school and playing for DU. Given all that, the Islanders and Toronto are in the business of fielding the best teams they possibly can and part of that is bring up players through their systems. Both players are highly regarded by their respective clubs and if one or both of the clubs feel it is in the club's best interest to get these two players in their sytems they will. That is why they are considered flight risks.
Jeremy Morin is the only player that's been linked to DU publicly. But he's also looking at UND & BU.
I've heard that Tyler & Rhett are most likely staying at DU next season, but they are still considered "flight risks" until they announce they're staying.
Just to be clear. When we talk about scholies and partial scholies, we're totally guessing. We don't know who gets what. But when DU graduates 3 players after a season and 6 players sign LOI's, questions get asked.
It's very accurate that Morin is looking heavily at BU. His brother goes to Harvard and he has been spotted at Aganis several times throughout the season on multiple recruiting trips. This coming directly from BU fans and students.
Morin needs to come out to Colorado and play for DU. Broaden his horizons a little.
Amen.
wow anyone know about ostrow's knee injury?
Spoke to a family member over Duluth weekend and the surgery went "very well."
Obviously missing an entire season and probably an opportunity to get drafted by an NHL team has to be hard on all concerned.
If there's a silver lining in all of this, Ryan Stoa looked pretty awesome last weekend after missing all of last season with a knee injury.
Gwoz has quite a love fest for Anchorage players, eh?
The "Great Alaska Pipeline" runs from Anchorage to DU. :-)
