Chambers Blog Has A Series Of Articles

Denver Post writer Mike Chambers has been busy this week obviously rounding into playoff form with four entries in his blog. We love the extra coverage, so keep it up.

Chambers was at practice on Tuesday and has the latest report.

The first posting deals with Miami University's connection to DU. Former Denver Captain Brian Vines is an assistant at Miami.

Chambers was at practice on Monday and has injury updates on Testwuide, Bozak & Ruegsegger.

Finally Chambers breaks down what Tyler Bozak brings to the table this weekend in the playoffs. Chambers notes that Bozak's enthusiasm breeds confidence, but I wonder if his confidence breeds enthusiasm? Either way its great to have him back.

DU on a budget?
Why is DU not taking all of their players to Minnesota this weekend?
Only 23 players will travel. What about players that have sacraficed and worked hard all year? They are being told that if they want to go, they would have to pay their own way! They would not be able to practice with the team, they would have to pay for their own hotels, tickets to the games, can't ride the bus, etc.

Is this an NCAA rule? A University decision? A coaching Decision? What if DU's season ends or if they advance....the athletes left in Denver are not there to share any of this?
Sure does not sound like decision that fosters TEAMWORK.

This sounds like the NCAA to me.

Check out the NCAA Championship Handbook for all the rules and regulations

web1.ncaa.org/web_files/champ_handbooks/ice_hockey/2009/1_micehockey_handbook.pdf

The NCAA is under extreme financial pressure, DU is under extreme financial pressure. Sadly its the sign of the times.

One of DU's players, I forget who, paid his own way to the regionals last year--not unprecedented.

Chambers updated his blog with a 4th story this morning after talking to Gwoz. He is going to update it again after going to practice.

another connection between miami and Denver...Cheverie's older brother Evan played for Blasi at Miami from 98-02,he's a forward not a goalie.

How sad! This is a disgrace.

The Handbook says that Du can take:
25 Band members
12 Cheerleaders
37 In their Official Travel Party.

In addition, each team has 51 rooms reserved 25 for their travel party and 25 for others like band, etc.

I guess DU must deem Band, Cheerleaders, mascots and other school personnel more important than the players who have been there all year working their tails off.

After all, we could never have a hockey game without the band and cheerleaders!

That is pathetic and a slap in the face to those players that should be a part of the official travel party but are being left behind!!

Shame on you DU!

I don't think we will take a band or cheerleaders... Hey can we snatch up the extra places to send the new mascot

DU sent the Band to the Sunbelt Basketball Tourney. I'm not sure if they will send the band to Minneapolis. I'm guessing no, but personally I'd like to see it.

DU has a pretty large alumni contingent in Minnesota including many former players. I heard that many of those former players will be attending the game(s).

As a fan and alum of DU I'd rather they sent the band. That doesn't mean that they shouldn't send the subs, just that the band, mascot & cheerleaders are an important component of the program and important ambassadors of the university.

Hopefully everyone will be in D.C. and this will be forgotten.

Band and Cheer are important. No arguements.

DU has 27 players on the roster. That leaves 10 spots open for their 37 spots allowed.

5 coaches and 5 other essential personnel. Perhaps some of the adults/employees that are going should be asked to pay their way, not the players.

Every player should be going. This is a big event, not just some WCHA road game.

DU has a band and cheerleaders?? I think I saw them at a grand total of 2 games this year.

2008-09 Band Schedule @ Hockey

October 25 - Ohio State (HC)

This was the first time the band played more than a couple of games in decades. Its progress.

Are you one of the subs or something Anon? I mean, it's stupid of DU, but you're getting waaaaaay too upset over something like this for the typical DU fan.

Not taking some of the pineriders up to Minny in no way takes away from what they have brought to the program during the whole year -- in my opinion. They are still a HUGE part of the success of what the Pioneers have been able to accomplish this year.

And if any of them do feel betrayed - they should transfer to CC and write a poem-thesis on the matter.

At CC the motto is "Leave No Player Behind because CC never wins a playoff game."

Leave the cheerleaders behind. They have no place in a hockey game to begin with. I bet most don't even know squat about what's going on and that's a understatement.

You obviously have never seen the Gopher or Duluth skating cheerleaders.

Do not mock what you don't know.

Exactly, Damien. Those are the kinda cheerleaders we need here in the Mile High City!

I do think many of them are interested in the games tho -- but I'm just assuming. When they started the cheer program up again my senior year, '04; many of the ladies were big hockey fans. Of course there are some that just want to be seen - but seriously .. what's the harm in that? :)

I saw them at the NCAA Regional a few years back here in Denver. I think they have no place at a hockey game.

lol @ achsdu17

awesome.

I really don't care for Cheerleaders. They do not belong in hockey and are a freakin annoyance. Stick with Football and Basketball. Hockey is better and should be without them.

I very much doubt DU will send its band or cheerleaders to the NCAA regional.

If they make it to the Frozen Four, I could see sending both, but not for the regional.

As for the reserve players, it's a tough call. 23 players need to be there to dress, then you have the essential staff - Gwoz, Miller, Lalonde, Tenzer, Zucker, Carle, Trainer (Lue), Equipment guy (Greseth), Assistant Equipment guy Strength coach, and SID. That leaves two other spots - presumably Peg Bradley Doppes (our AD) and Ron Grahame (associate AD).

yes but the difference from this year and last year is that the players that paid their own way to go still had passes to ride & participate with the team activities. This season they don't get squat! This is not a NCAA rule it is DU rolling out 10 passes to the upppers instead of the players that sacrificed everything to help this team get to where it is today! This is crap and Tenzier should be ashamed of himself for cutting off TEAMates from the team. Disgusting.
