Kyle Ostrow put DU ahead in the 2nd period but CC's Chad Rau tied it late in the 3rd period. Neither team could get a tally in the OT. DU will host UAA in the first round of the playoffs next weekend.

It's the curse of the Gold Pan.

If I'm right the historic record is dead on.
Before the Gold Pan we owned CC. Gold Pan was made we've struggled with them.
We win and lose the Gold Pan we own CC again.
New gold pan was made and we struggle again.

If we get it back we have to lose it again :D.

Seriously though both sides had their chances but to watch DU screw up a breakaway, a 3 on 1, missing pucks sitting in front of a wide open net and though we got a PP goal, we looked very crappy on many PP chances trying to make it fancy again.

Meat and Potatoes hockey is how it's done in the NCAA and I personally believe DU overdoes things. Making that extra pass.

One last thing... Hunt. What the hell was with him tonight. I know it's hockey, refs have a tough job but he made some calls that were just plane stupid and bad.

I hope that the WCHA reviews this game and sanctions referee Hunt for the misguided 5 minute major call at the 8 minute mark of the 3rd period. Clearly that was a shoulder to shoulder hit and at best an interference or boarding call and in no way a hit from behind. If a referee at this level cannot distinguish between the two then they should not be officiating at this level. Period. Killings off a 5 minute major that late in the game takes a great deal of energy and left DU vulnerable at the end when CC scored. The WCHA officials once again influenced the outcome of a game.

Lousy bedpan. CC can keep it. I've said it before -- We play for championships here in Denver; not participation banners.

Hunt should be fired.

Is Hunt related to Anderson or did they just go to the same referee school? What a bogus call.

So did Coombe's storm troopers make the students cover us the sucks?

Terrible refereeing last night. So inconsistent. There were several hits much worse than the 5-minute call that were let go. Very frustrating to watch.

Gwoz said it best when he said "I can't say anything about the officiating" If anyone can tell me how to head it up, I'll be more than happy to work on getting a new commissioner and hopefully starting getting some things right in the WCHA.

I really thought DU had this one in the bag. A 1-goal lead is certainly precarious, but I thought DU would hold on and finally get a W vs CC. Tough way to end the regular season series against CC, but it was a very exciting game nonetheless. Chad Rau again stepped up in the clutch. I can't wait until he graduates. Both goaltenders were outstanding.

The call on Vossberg was atrocious. To make that kind of call in a rivalry game is despicable. The WCHA and its officials need to sit down and take a long hard look at what they're doing. DU had to expend a lot of energy killing that penalty, and looked a little gassed at the end and in OT.

I really wish Glasser would get more ice time.

Big challenge next weekend. UAA will be a formidable opponent.

Mark Kisla`s article is a gem and deserves a permanent link in the right-hand column!

It was a great game, and frankly, sometimes a tie is the right result. Sure, it would have been nice to close out a win, but we did the same thing to CC a few weeks ago in CS, and that's the nature of a rivarly game where only one goal separated the two teams all year.

The Vossberg call was appalling, and hurt DU down the stretch, but there were still other chances to win the game.

Great energy and enthusiasm

Kizla's article is superb. Makes one proud to be a college hockey fan.

I would also add that last night's crowd was fantastic! I wish we had that type of crowd for every game, especially from the student section. It was a great night.

Get ready for an empty house next weekend. Spring break = no students.

Yes the officiatig was awful, which I have come to expect from the WCHA. And once again the power play unit was making too many passes when they had open opportunities to take a shot. However, I was very pleased with the top three lines tonight, all playing very well. Although I didnt really notice Maini doing anything major in his time out there.
