Wiercioch's hometown newspaper in Maple Ridge, British Columbia announced his selection.
Maple Ridge’s Patrick Wiercioch will get another crack at making the Canadian National Junior Hockey Team after being invited to the U-20 program’s summer development camp, being held August 5 to 10 in Saskatoon.
The local blue-liner did not make the final cut for last year’s team, which went on to win gold at the World Junior Hockey Championships.
The lanky defenseman was picked 42nd overall by the Ottawa Senators in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, and led the Denver University Pioneers in rookie scoring with 35 points (12 goals, 23 assists) in 36 games this season.
Wiercioch was second among all NCAA defensemen in scoring, and first among rookie blue-liners.
The 2010 World Junior Championships take place Dec. 26, 2009 to Jan. 5, 2010, in Saskatoon and Regina, Saskatchewan.

This kid is so "brave" on the ice. I've seen him just hang out as plays develop, he doesn't rush to make a big move - he's seemingly just "there" as he lets the play unfold and come to him... then he strikes like a great white shark, and winds up on the highlight reel. Nothing rattles him, nothing throws him off his game. Hopefully we'll get to watch him a couple more years still. He's a great hockey player.
Although we would certainly miss Wiercioch and Colborne at the Denver Cup, I hope both make Team Canada. It's a great honor to represent your country. And both would be playing in their own "backyard" Great for family and friends.
Any word yet on his return to DU for the '09/'10 season?
He'll be back unless Ottawa thinks he's ready for the NHL. In other words, Ottawa holds all the cards.
If Ottawa signs Wiercioch at any point over the summer DU, will bring David Makowski in a year early from the USHL.
As I said before, I don't see any weaknesses in this years team, assuming everyone stays healthy.
