DU Players In The News Around The Globe

It was a busy weekend for DU players and recruits around the world as various tryouts and international competitions were taking place.

Way up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Joe Colborne scored an empty netter during an intersquad scrimmage trying out for Team Canada yesterday. Patrick Wiercioch was a teammate of Colborne on the "Red Squad."

In Lake Placid, New York incoming Freshmen Drew Shore, William Wrenn and Matt Donovan are trying out for Team USA for the Under 20 World Championships. There's quite a few photos of the DU boys in this USCHO.com pictorial spread.

DU's newest recruit due to arrive in 2011-12 is Scott Mayfield. Mayfield is competing in the Ivan Helinka Tournament this week in Slovakia. The US lost 6-1 to Canada in an exhibition game and Mayfield was busy. He assisted on the US' only goal and had FIVE penalties for roughing, roughing, checking from behind, misconduct and delay of game.

Looks like the kid knows how to play old-time hockey. You know, like Eddie Shore used to play.

Is Mayfield a distant cousin of Paukovich?
