UND Adopts "Code Of Conduct" For Its Fans

LetsGoDU
called for improvements in fan safety at Ralph Engelstad Arena two weeks ago and the arena management and administration came through with a comprehensive plan that was unveiled today. UND & Ralph Engelstad Arena have laid the groundwork.

Now its time for the other nine WCHA Arenas (including DU) to follow suit. Sportsmanship is important and the WCHA needs to adopt or exceed the NCAA policy guidelines.
  • Abusive language or disorderly conduct is unacceptable and unwelcome. Profanity, racial or sexist comments or intimidating actions directed at the student-athletes, coaches or officials will not be tolerated.
  • Fans shall not interfere unduly with anyone else's right and opportunity to enjoy the event.
  • Fans shall refrain from throwing objects and/or possessing prohibited items.
  • Fans who consume alcoholic beverages shall do so in a responsible manner. Intervention with an intoxicated or underage guest will be handled in a prompt and safe manner. Fans appearing intoxicated will be denied entry and/or subject to ejection.
  • Offensive or obscene messages on signs or clothing will not be permitted.
  • Fans will be courteous to visiting teams and guests. We will cheer for the Sioux, not against our opponents.
  • Fans shall comply with the directions and instructions of Ralph Engelstad Arena staff regarding Arena operations and emergency response procedures.
  • Season ticket holders are responsible for their conduct as well as the conduct of their guests and/or persons occupying their seats.

“We will cheer for the Sioux, not against our opponents.”

Also really good advice to avoid a beer bath when visiting an opponents arena.

It's a good code, but I didn't see anything in there about Mullets...

Very good move. Hopefully the rest of the WCHA schools follow suit.

My bet is that CCtig will get a dousing at the Minnesota State game this weekend. Cheer for your own team tig.

I don’t see anything about being respectful at the end of the National Anthem. Oh wait, at Engelstad “Home of the Siouxxx” is appropriate. Just not in OUR arena. In any other arena, military personnel or veterans should feel free to smack them in the back of the head if they yell that out at the end of the National Anthem.

DU students now yell "Pioneers" at the end of the anthem as well. So we can't bitch about Sioux fans doing the same.

And Cornell fans shout the Rocket's "Red" Glare...

Personally, I find most of today's American Idol wannabe anthem singers are far more disrepectful of the National Anthem by mangling the tune and the words by adding their own silly points of emphasis than the fans are about shouting one word.

I prefer the band to play it simply and respectfully.

My dad is a vet and still yells Sioux at the end. Not saying that makes it ok, but just saying that not every vet is against yelling Home of the Sioux during the anthem.

Yes, yes I can. It's disrespectful plain and simple.

If DU fans do that at Engelstad arena, feel free to smack em in the back of the head. If I catch em at DU, I'll do it here. Punks!

Most of that list is displayed and announced at DU before the game but there is no enforcement at all. If it was enforced, there might be 5 students left at the end of the game (not sure if that would be good or bad to be honest). I see they don't have the "no gum chewing" rule that DU has... total anarchy going on up north eh?

And how do you refrain from cheering against your opponents? Does that mean you're not allowed to clap your hands when they take a penalty? Or how about cheering for your team when they score a goal... after all, that's something that happened against your opponent? I would like to hear a definition to that “We will cheer for the Sioux, not against our opponents.”

Wow the students are yelling that now?

They're lucky I'm not at the arena yet most of the time when the Anthem is being sung. I'm too busy drinking non-$7 beer across the street ... I may have to get there earlier a couple to heckle the stupid kids pulling this BS.

I honestly don't mind UND doing it - it's their thing, whatever. The anthem is our (the citizens) song and changing it slightly like that doesn't make me think they are un-Patriotic in the least. For the DU students to copy this is just stupid. Continue amping up the spirit levels in the section, but don't copy UND in any way, please.

It's been happening for at least 4 years....

If one of the Marines that is present for Toys for Tots slaps one of those disrespectful punks upside the head, I’ll be cheering!
