Economic Downturn Affects CC Hockey

The Economic downturn has hit Colorado Springs and Colorado College particularly hard. The CC Tiger was recently observed shovelling the World Arena parking lot to make ends meet.

DG would never dress in a Tiger costume. He would rather drink cyanide ;-)

Those are the most girly hands I've ever seen!

D.g. has gone over to the dark side

anyone have a clue why there are only three teams in the Wells Fargo Cup. Did someone drop out?

DU, BC, UNO and St. Lawrence

what I am confused about is how the tournament is set up. What is a "showcase format"?

Aluuum said...

it's a standard 4 team tourn. The 2 winners play for the trophy. tne 2 losers play for 3rd place.
Usually the weakest of the four teams is selected to play the home team to give the home team the best chance of getting to the finals.

Nope, this year it is a showcase tournament - a showcase tournament has predefined matchups. The 2010 Wells Fargo Denver cup with feature Friday games pitting DU against UNO and BC against SLU. Saturday games feature UNO playing SLU and DU matching up with BC.

In the past, what Aluuum said is true.

I am pretty sure that DU went to a showcase format to make sure that he got a sure chance to play BC for PWR reasons.

Don't be surprised if you see this Denver tournament moving to a different time frame (not X-mas/new Years) in the future. I think Gwoz is getting tired having to play non-con teams with depleted lienups due to the WJCs. This might also open up DU to participate in other Holiday tourneys....

DU is a "he"? I guess Boone is the right guy for DU after all...

IS DG flying to Denver or something? No links to game notes here. The notes are on the DU website for each team

hey guys, i just read all of your recent comments and stand corrected. However ,i think this is political nonsense. it looks like a tournament organized by the liberal party. There is NO CLEAR CUT WINNER!--or loser for that matter. What do they do with the trophy--cut in half??--ciut it in four pieces? As usual 'political decisions try to please everyone and only screw things up.

What's the big deal about the Denver Cup, anyway? This is not the trophy either of the 4 contestants want, in the grand scheme of things. I think it's political and corporate-driven. Seems like they used to bring 3 absolutley joke teams in to compete with Denver. Atleast now the talent leve is a little better. BC will be looking for a W

A tournament. BY DEFINITION,means there is a recognized winner. Otherwise ,all we have is an exhibition.

Back to the subjest at hand..... COLORADO COLLEGE TIGERS SUCK! I hope they all get severley sunburned, attacked by no-see-'ems and get the runs from eating bad shrimp and oysters! Screw You CC

BU (last year's NC's) and BC (2 years ago NC's), are not "joke teams"

CC falls to the unranked Black Bears in Florida.

US 4-2 on Canada with 13 minutes to go.

It's much more valuable to DU to pick both of their opponents than it is to leave it to fate. To be assured of playing UNO and BC for PWR reasons and for the guaranteed TV exposure of playing BC in the Saturday evening is simply of more value to DU than other scenarios.
