DU 3 - UAA 2 FINAL

Tyler Ruegsegger scored a game winning goal on a sensational pass from Rhett Rakhshani with less than a minute to go as DU rolled to a 3-2 victory over UAA. With the win the University of Denver remains in first place in the WCHA.

Patrick Wiercioch opened the scoring on a power play late in the 1st period to give DU a 1-0 lead. Assists to Rhett Rakhshani and Tyler Ruegsegger.

Mickey Spencer of UAA tied the game at one a piece on the power play with a minute left in the 2nd period.

Joe Colborne gave DU a 2-1 lead midway through the 3rd period with an even strength goal.

Moments later UAA's Nick Haddad batted in a goal out of the air to tie the game at two.

All that was left was Tyler Ruegsegger's heroics giving DU the win with under a minute remaining in the game.

Good riddance UAA. Play a tough hard nosed weekend of hockey and then goon it up. Dumbass hacks.

Someone gave a cheap shot punch to Wrenn's face. The UAA player will probably get a one game suspension.

DU has its biggest series of the year after the bye week against Wisconsin. The DU players showed maturity and restraint during the postgame fracas. UAA was acting like a spoiled little brother - which I guess is what they are.

When two alaska players left the bench two D.U. guys left to match them and Gwaz yelled at them to come back which they did.The two alaskaans should get at least a one game suspension.
It started when the alaska captain grabbed and forearmed our guy right after the end horn.
That pass from rhak was hard to believe.
Cook plaayed regular shifts and made two great up ice passes. he had good ice vision.

That turd Clark from UAA is a ****ing punk. I hope he plays pro next year and gets what he deserves.....the shit kicked out of him.

Character win for the Pios tonight, Much better DU effort than last night. Sick game winner for DU.

UAA a big, tough team to DU to match up with. They really play well against us. They probably deserved more than a point this weekend. Great defensive effort.

Twister said...

Wow, what a clutch victory tonight for DU. I thought for sure we were headed for OT and a repeat of last night. Rhett's pass was unbelievable, and Tyler buried it. An amazing sequence.

UAA deserves a lot credit. Not only did those guys come to play, but they had a gameplan and executed it extremely well. It was a monumental struggle for DU to get into any kind of offensive flow, and UAA played a very physical tight checking game and was able to frustrate the Pios for a large portion of the weekend. DU was much better tonight than last night in terms of effort, but it was still a very close and hard fought game.

That said, the way UAA concluded the weekend was bush league. Those guys were obviously frustrated after the final horn, but that kind of crap is ridiculous. The worst part was Shyiak just stood there and did nothing.

Yeah, good riddens, losers! Whatever ? - ? - ? .... It's like, who givesafuch if the Seawolveds get suspended anyways? They'll get thier asses kicked the rest of the season anyway... Hey Clark....BE SURE to watch us live on ESPN from Detroit, OK? You little maddafaga. SCOREBOARD, BEOTCH! Have fun working in an office somewhere from 9 to 5, working for someone else for a sheet paycheck after you graduate.... DENVER WINS; UAA LOSES

Great win tonight!

Rest up boys and get ready for a sweep in Badger Land.

Hello people. Can I get an Amen on the news out of Duluth this weekend? The evil 57 empire goes down and comes up with a goose egg in the points column this weekend. What happened to the freshmen boy wonder between the pipes? Sounds like he spread his legs! :-)

The box score is taking a long time to be published. I am starting to worry about possible suspensions.

Can't afford to be shorthanded going into Madison.

Anonymous said...

You'd be frustrated too, if you completley sucked. I mean... for these Sea-pussies, playing MTU is a challenge. FIRE Shiyak. get someone who can turn that shiddy program around; because right about now... they're literally just an inconvenience on the schedule for most teams

Donald Dunlop said...

DG,
Rolled? LOL ...

BTW ... Wiercioch started it ... he went after Gorham's head at the horn. Without that happening UAA would have lined up and shook hands. Which they were still willing to do until Jowls sent his team off like a baby.

Donald Dunlop said...

Yeah .. it's inconvenient for the #2 team in the nation to get outscored 12- 10 over a four game series versus the current #32 KRACH team.

Pull your head out of your ass anondummy ...

achsdu17 said...

I don't know if great character win really sums up how big this win was. This was a knock down, drag out street fight series where the Pios had to prove to themselves that they can play those rough, gritty, dirty games and win. I'll give UAA credit... they stopped our speed game on the spot but somehow we ended up with the 3 points this weekend. It's just the will and desire of our seniors I thought kept this team pushing forward even after losing the lead twice.

I really hope the suspensions aren't bad for Denver. Yes, UAA was the instigator at the end... freakin cheep slash to Joe and hell I would of stood up for my teammate to if I was out there. Even so... you know any time there is a fight there will be consequences. They will be much harsher for UAA for sure but they have nothing to really play for unlike DU. Wisconsin in two weeks and I hope our roster doesn't have to suffer. I think at least two players will get suspended one being Joe and I did see one of our players leave the bench area and try to help split that up but even if he met well he'll be charged.

Anonymous said...

Which they were still willing to do until Jowls sent his team off like a baby.
"Jowls" - now that is classic. Yeah, I also thought that it was bush league for Gowz to not have the guys shake hands after the game ended. Not like it was UND where you had to worry about getting butt ended in the handshake line or anything.

achsdu17 said...

It looked to me like both coaches were telling their team to get to the locker room. Hell I'd say the same thing.

puck Swami said...

No need for a handshake flare up.

Still no boxscore yet, I think suspensions are likely.

Donald Dunlop said...

swami,
There can be no reason for it to take this long except for politics. I'd imagine Bruce is already involved and that at least one coach has his ear.

Donald Dunlop said...

Boxscores up ...

Two Game Disqualifications each ...
Crowell and Tuton ...
Ryder and Wrenn ...

MagnessMan said...

Here's another factor. The refs were just flipping standing there--they were taking by total surprise. You would think given the tension all night they would've been ready. They could have totally gotten it under control if they stepped in quicker. Let's give the four of them the week end off next week. Maybe Swaider and Pettigirl can get Lasix.

Notice how both teams had 7 players get tagged with some sort of penalty?

Evened it up ... this boxscore has McLeod's signature all over it.

puck Swami said...

I agree, Donald.

Too convenient to have seven player each.

DU's suspensions are costly. 2 regular d-men out.

Jordan said...

A shame the game ended the way it did. Even more shameful the ignorant cheering fans for the post-game fight. Swami is 100% right, going into Madison shorthanded is far more harmful than any good that could have come from a post-game fight with UAA.

I'm just glad the weekend is over. Except for the last minute of Saturday's game, that was potentially the most boring hockey I've watched since I came to DU.

Everyone loves a good scrap!Old time hockey! Putting on the foil!No fighting in college hockey is why punks like Clark can run around all night.

Anonymous said...

Anyone notice Ruegsegger and Clark during one of the face offs. Ruegs kept waving his hands in front of Clark.Clark must have been jawing about something. He obviously is trying to make up for lack of talent and size with his big mouth.

msbdu said...

Hey Donald, where did you guys get Clark from? He is a real class actr. He's got that Napoleon complex working for him.

Anonymous said...

Looks like DU is poised for another second half of the season flame-out........yawn, too bad.

vizoroo said...

Box score shows Crowell with 2 game DQ's. 2 game suspension from refs?

Hope Donovan and Nutini are ready for the Badgers. Jon Cook could see some more ice time too. Thought he played well in his first game of the season.

Ralphie said...

So we lose Ryder and Wrenn for one game each, am I reading that right? I thought Cook played pretty well too, guy has a heavy hard shot and can one-time it real nice like. We get Donny back...although it sucks, we can manage for one game...no? I've only been going to DU games for 5 years and that Clark is the biggest jag-off I've seen in Magness. After one of the WCHA playoff games last year I was yeeling at him and he turned to say something back. My 11 year old son yelled "loser" and he didn't quite know what to say.

Anonymous said...

I think the guy from UAA will get 3 games. You get one for your first DQ and two for your second DQ. Your third DQ gets you suspended for the remainder of the WCHA season.

Jim Johnson said...

DG,

Come on "rolled" the only thing DU rolled this weekend was probably after the game. It really is not flattering how arrogant DU is.No need to worry come tourney time they will get bounced again like they always do.

Anonymous said...

FLAMEOUT

Anonymous said...

At least we make it to the tourney, slapnuts!!

Anonymous said...

Little Jimmy - bounced again like they "always" do? Do you know what the definition of always is? DU has 7 national championships and 2 in last six years. You are an idiot with the memory of a gold fish.

Saying UAA always fails to win a national championship, or UAA has never won a national championship would be correct. I'm too lazy to look, but have they even made the tournament? Or won a game in the tournament?

DU fans are arrogant now? Does this mean that the Gopher fans will invite us to their parties now? Sweet!

dggoddard said...

DU dictated the play all game long. Credit UAA for sticking to the game plan.

DU only outshot UAA 29-22, but UAA blocked 20+ shots. UAA was playing not to lose and DU was doing everything in their power to push the tempo of play.

At the end of the day UAA had no answer when DU started double shifting Rakhshani, Colborne & Ruegsegger.

Props to Wrenn for getting one of the game winning assists and Chris Knowlton for having his finest weekend as a Pioneer. Will be interesting to see if Knowlton can have similar success against the Badgers in two weeks.

Great to see the fans making more noise than on Friday night.

Jim Johnson said...

Anon,

You keep telling yourself that. The last 3 or 4 yrs DU hasn't even made it out of their regional. So don't tell me oh 7 national championship and blah blah blah. Your only as good as your last season jackass. There are other teams who have won 7, 9 national championship as well so DU isn't the only team to win national championships. DUDE.

Anonymous said...

I'll take DU's body of work as a program anytime. Thanks for stopping by!

Anonymous said...

Johnson.....you must be dumber than a box of rocks. The quality of a program is judged not on one season but by its history. You'd be hugging the nuts of any player who comes from a program with 7 titles, when your program doesn't sniff the postseason. Does that make sense to you, homeboy?

Props to Damien - 39 posts and counting. A few honest questions -I'm too lazy to look it all up online. Regarding Alaska's little Gentleman... Clark... A) Is he drafted? B) What's his major? C) Are his lip-flapping antics actually a part of UAA's regular "gameplan"?

He's exactly why you should never, ever shake a baby.

But, even Clark would say "CC CUX"

Holy crap. Miami with two loses to Bob Morris & Bemidji. Good thing they don't play in the CHA. They'd be in third place. :-)

Perfect week to be ranked #1 in Pairwise. A Bye Week with no johnny come lately coming into Magness with nothing to lose trying to kick our ass (see UAA).

Denver is lucky to have a guy like Wrenn on their team; just ask Tommy Grant; he's probably still hurting from the hit Wrenn laid on him last year when Wrenn was with u18 team (go to youtube "wrenn hit") playing v. UAA. Grant looks like he's in la la land after that one. Is video of the final scrum posted any where ? always like to see a good old fashioned hockey scrum.

Crowell had no choice but to jump on the ice. He knows that Clark fights like a girl and wouldn't be able to hold his own.
