Cheverie Named CHN Player Of The Year

(above) More accolades for DU goaltender Marc Cheverie

In perhaps the closest call in College Hockey News' five years, Denver goaltender Marc Cheverie has been named CHN Player of the Year.

Cheverie has been considered a Hobey Baker Award favorite for a large part of the year, but with his team losing its last three games, his status has been thrown into question. (read rest of article)

Chevie had the Hobey locked until the last three games. Not now. The defensman(Smith?) from Wisconsin will win it.

You can thank the offensive minded Weircioch and the rest of the d-core for losing the Hobey for Chevrie. They hung him out to dry.

Whaterrrrr Anon 11:40.

A team doesn't win many games scoring only one goal in 60 minutes so it wasn't entirely the D-corps that ruined Chevrie's chances for Hobey. Maybe the d-corps actually helped get Chevy in the running in the first place.

None of this even matters. The Hobey vote has already been completed. There is one vote only that is taken. The Hobey committee already knows the winner -- and has for a couple of weeks. They just release the top 3 vote-getters names as the 'Hobey Hat Trick' as part of a suspense-building ploy.

In other words, nothing got ruined for Chevy in the past couple of weeks. If he doesn't win, it just means he never was going to win -- the playoff meltdown has nothing to do with it.

Hobey Hat Trick just announced - Cheverie not one of them....

Anon2:27 I think the voting is done AFTER the playoff tournaments. Not sure but that's what i was told. If that is correct then i stand by my "Chevy lost it in the last three games"

I sure would have loved to see Marc win the FF AND go Hobey. The fact of the matter is, those last few playoff games weren't going DU's way' had nothing to do with MC. I don't expect he'll have much culture shock, going from Cole Harbor and Denver down to Ft. Lauderdale....... He's #1 in my book.

I knew as soon as DU got knocked out of competition that the crapheads from the east would immediately cross off Rakhsnani and Chevy. And I can guarantee the guy from the WCHA won't get it. The east coast controls this whole thing...... sad; they best players aren't mentioned - and the best teams in the country are not in the FF.

I love that "East coast controls the whole thing" comment .... since the WCHA won it like 5 years in a row recently - and the award is based in Minnesota - and the committee is evenly split with representation around the country. But anyway ...

It's true the HHT is a suspense-building thing, but the voting is done after the NCAA Regionals.

Well, at least you're right about the meltdown part.

thanks for the clarification Adam (and your website BTW). You'll never convince us westerners that there isn't an east coast bias. It's a grand conspiracy. I mean, look at who you picked for player of the year...he's from Nova Scotia! ;-)
