Mike Chambers of the Denver Post is reporting that University of Denver star forward Joe Colborne signed a contract with the Boston Bruins for slightly less than the Rookie maximum.

Colborne will report to the AHL Providence Bruins today.

Good luck Joe, wish you could have stuck around for another year. I don't know how much you are going to enjoy riding those buses from game to game. And the guys in the AHL, they do hit. Be careful out there.

Big guys have a lot of trouble adjusting to the college game where speed demons thrive.

Colborne was skilled enough to make the transition. He certainly improved every month he was at DU.

Hopefully he'll be in the NHL before too long.

Please explain to me why Joe wouldn't have waited until next year to bolt. If you think ND plays goon hockey, wait until he meets the welcoming committee in the AHL.

AHL hockey isn't that rough any more. The players are bigger, way bigger than college hockey, but its nowhere near as physical as an WCHA rivalry game.

AHL players are just collecting a paycheck and playing in front of a couple of thousand fans who are more interested in the mascot and the free T-Shirt giveaways.

The AHL features a lot of very skilled players that have one or more deficiencies that will keep them out of the NHL.

What Joe has going for him that 95% of AHL players don't have, is he's a first round draft choice. Boston is going to do everything they can to get him up to the big club.

Highly doubtful Joe cracks the Bs lineup for a while. He still needs a lot of development.

I'm still trying to get over the shock and disappointment of the season being over. This doesn't help.

Best of luck to Joe. He certainly made great strides this year, but it sure would have been nice to have him one more year. I think he could have dominated next year.

If Chevy and Wiercioch both leave, does DU have an open spot? I know we get Jackson back, but with the 6 seniors leaving plus the 3 underclassmen does DU bring in another recruit?

Brittain will come in early if Chevy leaves. That leaves one possibly two spots open with one to two scholies available. My guess is that Gwoz will bring in additional players. With these guys announcing their intentions early, it makes it easier for Gwoz to replace them than if they waited til late in the summer.

All I can say is that its his decision but he definitely has a long way to go before he makes the NHL. His physical play, faceoffs, and even speed need to improve. He'll probably be in the AHL for 2-4 years before he becomes a regular NHLer but you never know.

Wiercioch can get the hell out now as far as I'm concerned. Terrible defense in the second half of the season.

Chevy...PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, STAAAAAAAY!!!

Chevy is graduating and now Chambers is saying that Florida is making a big push to sign Chevy.

I still think Chevy is going to take the Free Agency route this summer and sign with a team in June.

I sure wish we were talking about the FF instead of players leaving early. Nevertheless, congratulations to Big Joe. He concludes his DU career with 72 points in 79 games--not too shabby. He will be missed.

"fans who are more interested in the mascot and the free T-Shirt giveaways"

Sounds like a typical game at Magness

Except for the seats being painted white.

I'll be able to see him in action this weekend as the Providence Bruins travel to play the Manchester (NH) Monarchs. It will be interesting to see how he does his first game out and in the AHL. I'll bring the camera and take some pictures.
