Patrick Wiercioch May Sign With Ottawa Senators

Ottawa will play the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night. It is possible that if Wiercioch signed a contract, he may be in the lineup, but no official word as of yet.

Patrick is still trying to decide whether or not to accept the offer. The Ottawa Citizen article is not correct. He hasn't signed a contract yet.

On Monday, Wiercioch told the DU Clarion student newspaper.

Discounting rumors, Wiercioch said he has not yet made a decision about next season. He was the Ottawa Senators second-round draft pick in 2008, No. 42 overall.

“It was news to me,” he said Monday afternoon. “I got a few text messages saying ‘Congratulations.’ It’s not true as of yet."

And so the Exodus begins

He's gonna get his ass kicked--too skinny.

He certainly didn't have a year as good as his Freshman year. He need at least another year in college. Everyone remember what happened to Dingle and Paucovich

He is far from being an N.H.L> defenseman. He can play offense but needs much work on playing good defense.

Congrats to Patrick.

No one predicted Stastny's immediate impact and I'm not sure we every saw Wiercioch completely healthy. If they get him fixed up in the offseason, he may surprise everyone.

He's one of the most fluid skaters I've ever seen. Only one in his class at DU has been Matt Carle.

D.G.
Matt was safe with the puck in traffic in his own end.Patrick isn't. Huge difference.

When D.U. scored it's lone goal agains RIT you had your five seconds of being an on screen celebrity.

I'm not done with being a celebrity. :-)

Colborne just signed. No media reports out yet, but the info is 100% solid.

So the next one is Chevy??? What does the future hold for Colburne. Why not wait another year Big Joe, as was said before, you certainly don't need the $$

Colborne needs to work on checking and becoming a physical force. Perhaps the AHL/NHL route will speed his development.

Running around with 5'8" RIT speedsters isn't going to get the job done.

Colborne is going to be an interesting one to watch over the next several years.

Neither Colborne or Wiercioch are ready. They should have stayed one more year and developed their skill sets further.

Good bye entire top line. Good luck next year.:O

What a bummer, but not too surprising. The good news for the DU hockey program is that they can continue to recruit the best junior players from US and Canada under the basis that they will get you to the next level. Its a total "catch 22," as you have the best players waiting in line to get to DU only to stay for a year or two. I agree with all those posts on the physical development of both of the players; they dont seem ready to me. I think that Pauko is a great example. He left early, and played 3 years of minor pro. His contract ends at the end of this season, then what? Germany? I feel as is Geoff was much bigger and more physically prepared than either of these two guys. Oh well, good luck boys!

Supposedly Patrick has not made up his mind yet. The Ottawa Citizen jumped the gun.

He may still have another year at DU.

Colborne signing is a done deal.

Come on Patrick!! Hang with us another year. You need to develop your defense further.
I met your dad at the parents luncheon .He didn't have a problem with you staying beyond this year. Listen to dad!

Why the hell would they say he could be in the lineup Tuesday? THAT is crazy - for a rookie

Matt Carle went right from DU to the San Jose Sharks. He played in 12 regular season games and 11 playoff games that season.

Carle scored 3 goals and 6 assists in 23 regular & post season games.

What's the word on Chevy at this point?

Most likely, Chevy makes his decision in the summer, and its based on potential playing time not money. Despite being a college Junior, he can apply for free agency.

Four years after Chevy was drafted (2006), if he hasn't come to a contract agreement with the Florida Panthers, he can become an unrestricted free agent. That would mean this summer (2010).

Chevy's family advisor/agent can find the best situation with the most likely route to the NHL.

Its the same free agency move that Blake Wheeler pulled a couple of years ago, despite the fact that Phoenix was willing to give him the rookie maximum contract.

Wiercioch is terrible at D. He should stick around another year and make the transition to center. Plenty of guys shift between d and f in their careers, and everyone points to the PP as his strength. Put less defensive pressure on him and keep the offensive strengths.

Would love to see Weircioch back for another year. Both he and the Pioneers would benefit.

Clearly Patrick and his family have gone up to Ottawa to find out the chances of playing in the NHL next season. Ottawa felt he had come up there to sign a pro contract.

Its very possible that Ottawa can't make the promises that the Wiercioch's are looking for and he'll return to DU. The longer this drags on, the better shot DU has of Patrick returning.

Too much hating on Weircioch going on. He's got work to do but so does every prospective NHL'er. Look at how one year of (slightly disappointing) professional experience transformed Stamkos into an absolute force.
And enough with the idea of him switching to forward, thats not gonna happen, the Senators know that, and watching DU for the last 4 years doesnt make you an expert on hockey strategy

I hope you get him back. He sucks at D. He will not be nearly as good without the A-team around him.

Sorry guys, but DU is in for a long year next year.
