Martin & Malone Cross Paths In Team Hotel

(above) The lobby of the five-star Saint Paul Hotel has plenty of comfy sofas for gumshoe reporters like Mike Chambers to lounge in while waiting for stories to develop

Like the Brown Palace in Denver, the Saint Paul Hotel is a swanky five-star hotel that has hosted presidents and heads of state. It also has served as the temporary home of the top two seeds of the WCHA Final 5 in recent seasons.

Yesterday injured University of Denver hockey player Jesse Martin ran into University of North Dakota hockey player Brad Malone.  Reporter Mike Chambers captured the moment in an article in today's Denver Post.

That's it???? Well, I was kind of disappointed in this story by Chambers after all the hubbub about it. I was expecting something profound ... but, all's well I guess

"I got to thank God for Jesse's sake that that's happening."

Gotta say Malone is a class act.

I can't agree with your assessment on Malone. A class act wouldn't have been silent for all these months, especially after a true class act, Jesse, calls Malone from a hospital bed concerned about HIS well being. Interesting that the calls work going from Denver to ND (including the DU seniors) but they don't seem to work from ND to Denver. A reflection of the contrast of the character between the two programs, I believe.

I still feel the hit was very questionalble and that Jesse and DU went out of their way to give Malone a break on it. Also, I recall that Malone had another DQ a couple of weeks later. He has been a pretty dirty player for most of his career. My impression is that Malone is giving lip service, not showing class. Just one man's opinion.

What would have him do?

On a side note, as die-hard DU fan, I will say that UND has the nicest hockey arena in college sports. Hands down, end of story. So why don't you all go up to that mostly crap town next year on a road trip and represent the Pios? I think the Alumni should invade Engelstad and put some Crimson in that place. Because I've been there, and it's waaay too white and green in there. I hope UND/DU will play 2 series next year? We should do it

What would I have him do? If he truly had class, he would have been the one to make thhe first call to check on Jesse's well being. Jesse, after all, was the one lying in a hospital bed, wondering about his future. Failing that, there was a whole lot of time in between the hit and this weekend that he could have reached out. Pretty disappointing the way he handled it.

I kind of have to agree with Anon 6:21. I don't like the fact that this meeting was "just by chance" with Malone running into Martin in the lobby. I know people deal with these kind of issues differently but Malone could have at least made the effort to talk to Jesse about the incident.

Robbie Bina agrees with you.

That's a joke boy.

At least Pako was man enough to sit down with Bina and clear the air. As I recall, he also took the initiative to call Bina after the incident. Once again, an example of the difference in class between the two programs. Also, did you notice the two cheap shots by Malone again tonight. Almost killing someone earlier in the year really affected the guy. What a punk.

That would have been great. Too bad Geoff chickened out. That's why Greene gave him the beat down at training camp.

More cheap shots by Malone tonight.
