Ugh. Another possible matchup against UND... I think we could have done without that.

Playing Sioux is OK; but they should push it somewhere farther away than Green Bay! That would simply be a home game for UND. We all know thier fans travel (you would too if you lived in friggin Grand Forks). Make it challenging for the fans, so they spend some gas money. Give the oil industry a little boost!

That is the official bracket now. DU playing WMU.

Book the Frozen Four. We are at the top of our game and our Goalie is also. We won in 04 and 05 with stone wall goal tending.

That's a baloney bracket. Put the two best WCHA teams in the same bracket, give the other guys a chance. Baloney. Air Force has an easier road to the Frozen Four...

ESPN3 for DU game? No regular TV? You've got to be kidding me.

@ anon 11:16

I was thinking the same thing....really, no TV coverage

I thought I heard them say that the games would be available on ESPN3 as well, which I took as being that they would be on TV as well as on the internet. Maybe I was wrong, I'm not sure. I would hope that the games would be available in both ways...

The WCHA has five teams in it. No question about which league is the best.

It looks like the regionals will be shown on ESPNU.

Anonymous said...

is the game on saturday at 1?

The semi final game is available for syndication, meaning any network or station can bid with ESPN to show the feed in Denver. Someone will likely pick up the feed - Altitude2, FSNRM, Comcast 5 etc.

The regional final is on ESPNU.

My two schools are DU and WMU. Quite a predicament for me. Having followed both teams closely, I can tell you DU has more talent, but WMU should not be taken lightly. They hung tough with Miami yesterday and whooped Michigan Friday. They will outwork just about anybody.

I read that the games will be available on espn3 but the website never loads for me. Anybody else have this problem?

I can handle them playing in front of a stadium full of green and white cheese-head wannabes. I can handle us facing Brad Malone and Hextall and the Sioux again. I can handle no TV. I could even handle Anderson & Shepherd as refs. What I CANNOT take, is the God awful, horrendous sounds of Barry Melrose's stupid ass comments hitting my eardrums like razor sharp pointed ice picks. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get that greasy loudmouth horse face off the microphone and cameras! PLEASE.

How can the NCAA put the 2 best teams in the WCHA in the same bracket? They shouldn't have to meet again until the final game.

The NCAA followed bracket integrity, and only swapped teams to avoid first round inter-league matchups. Avoiding second round league matchups is not a priority for the NCAA and never has been. In other words, the NCAA did the right thing here by following yearly selection principles.

DU likely could've likely avoided this draw by not losing to Michigan Tech at home in February, which effectively killed their bid for a 1-4 seed.

Anonymous above is so right about Barry Melrose. I remember in 05 when he said "UND is big like an NHL team, and might makes right." Then DU crushed them 4-1.

The game will be on Saturday at 3 PM MT.

The game will be shown on ESPNU on a tape delayed basis.

It could also be shown live in Denver if someone local or regional picks up the syndicated NCAA/ESPN feed.

I expect DU will make this happen by mid-week.

Wow. The bottom half of the bracket is so much tougher than the top half.

If DU beats WMU (they should), the Pios will likely face UND. if DU should win - a tall order, then Pios will likely face BC in St. Paul in opening game of the Frozen Four.

It's nice to see that Denver can't make it to the Frozen Four. No way they will ever beat NoDak this late in the season.

DU outplayed UND last night if you saw any of the game. Until last night, I would have agreed with you that UND is simply too strong, but we had a great opportunity to win that one!!!

I would rather loose the Broadmoor and win for a Frozen Four birth any day. BEAT WMU!!!

So much talk about the UND matchup. Gotta beat W. Michigan first. Remember RIT?

@ anon 4:19

When was the last time und even beat DU in the NCAA's?

Anonymous said...

UND had three kinda lucky bounces for their goals last night.

Goal 1: Bounced off Nick Shore
Goal 2: Wrap around bounced off Brittain's leg
Goal 3 Hit a skate in front and bounced right to Frattin.

UND did not have a single pass that led to a goal last night, only bounces.

At least DU's goals were deliberate set ups and not accidents.

UND should be thanking the hockey gods - last night they were outplayed by DU for about 75% of the game.

D.U clearly was the better team last night

Of all tems to stand in the way of a National Championship for Denver - I never thought it would be the BRONCOS! Can an we get John Elway to renounce the name of the local NFL franchise for one day? ???

I don't know that Zuck can handle one more shift against UND. Man were they tough on him last night. They are a huge physical team. I think we should pray that RPI pulls an upset.

No Bounces last night. DU has had zero puck luck all year.

PioneerVarsity said...

If DU plays the way they are capable of playing, the Pioneeers can beat anyone. DU has skill, speed, tremendous penalty killing, and a little bit of sandpaper to its game. The Pios also have plenty of motivation (early exits, Jesse Martin, etc and terrific coaching. Goaltending also appears to be heating up as well, and with victories over every WCHA team this year, confidence should be good.

What DU doesn't have is depth beyond the third line, a really strong power play, or tremendously physical players other than Ryder. For DU to run the table, I think DU is going to need Sam to keep the GAA at 2 GPG and hope DU can manufacture 3 goals per game somehow.

Zero puck luck? A 190-foot goal?

All teams have puck luck go for them and go against them...
