Excited to see him replace Donovan. Looks like he has a nice shot and skates well.

According to the video, Joey tied Duncan Keith's d-man scoring record in the BCHL. Duncan is now a member of the 2010 Stanley Cup winning Chicago Black Hawks and the 2010 Norris Trophy winner. Duncan played at Michigan State for just under 2 years before leaving and playing for Kelowna in the WHL. Duncan was heavily recruited by DU and he ultimately chose MSU over DU. If Joey turns out to be a player of Duncan's ilk, DU will have another star d-man in the stable.

Is it just me or has Donovan's decision been scrutinized much more than the other players who left early? Frei and the rest of the media should give him the benefit of the doubt and hope he does well.

@Twister

I'm just speculating that perhaps Donovan's decision has been so scrutinized is because he was an iffy player at times and was never consistant therefore leaving people to wonder if he could have benefited from another year at DU, etc.

I agree though. We need to wish him the best and give him support because the decision is done and the contract is signed so no matter how much people say he made a mistake it doesn't matter because he will never be coming back to college hockey.

Its not Frei's job to wish him well. He's an columnist for the Denver Post.

Frei's job is to second guess, criticize, comment and offer opinions on sports.

If Donovan makes the Islanders or wins a Stanley Cup, then he can wish him well.

Any time Terry Frei offers opinions about DU hockey, good or bad, its a good thing.

My guess is that both Frei and Chambers are channeling Gwoz' feelings that Dono could have used another year at DU.

Dono's skills are pro level, but his body and decision-making could use more seasoning. Perhaps he'll get that at the next level, but as a fourth rounder, he's a project player who will likely spend at least a year or two in the AHL.

Ironic verification word: noodu (NO DU?)
