Mike Chambers Blog Features Fresh New Look

(above) Mike Chambers blog has a fresh new look

The Denver Post has moved Mike Chambers Blog over to "The Field House" section of their website.  You can always link to Chambers articles from LetsGoDU's sidebar under "DU Hockey Blogs & Websites."

Now that Terry Frei is no longer covering the NHL Colorado Avalanche for the Denver Post, Mike Chambers will now be reporting on hockey full-time during the winter.  He will rotate between DU hockey coverage and the Avs.  If he is out of town or has a conflict, Adrian Dater will fill in for Mike.

This means that two NHL hockey writers will cover the Pioneers this season.  Certainly no other program in the country will match that; especially during this difficult economic period for newspapers and media. For instance the Minnesota Gophers no longer have a full time beat reporter from the hometown Minneapolis-St Paul Tribune.

Congrats from PioNation to Mike Chambers on his new responsibilities.  He's done a fantastic job covering DU hockey in the past and his blog provides unparalleled access to the Pioneer program.  And welcome aboard Adrian Dater.

What about the Pioneer Press do they cover the Gophers?

The Pioneer Press and Tribune "cover" the Gophers, but both papers don't have a full time beat reporter like they used to.

Roman Augustoviz writes a blog about the Gophers for the Tribune.

Its the sad state of affairs in the newspaper industry.

DU is very lucky that the Post covers the Pioneers in they way that they do, especially considering the size of the market and the fact that there are around or more six pro teams in Denver.

I always encourage DU fans to subscribe to the Post or hit their website. They keep very close tabs on how many "hits" DU articles receive.

Given this news, When reading about (Avalanche) games during the season, I would like to see more of a subtle effort to "connect" NHL players to College Hockey, particularly Denver, in the articles. Just little, almost subliminal messages...for example when the Islanders play the Avs....just a short sentence, saying X amount of former Denver players are in the Isles organization. Sure, you always have the Carle, Stasny, Bozak moments to hit on.....but I think they need to point out college connections whenever possible. Even if the Red Wings are here, you can reflect back on Howe and perhaps say if he ever played in Magness against DU back then. If you really dig, I bet there's a way to connect atleast one guy on any NHL team to NCAA Hockey. By doing that, I think we would build more awareness of the DU program, just south of Pepsi Center. Maybe some Avs die-hards never looked at DU? Maybe by trying something like this in the newspaper might get people to think, "DUDE! Devils RULE! I didn't know Parise played against Denver when he was at North Dakota; we should check out a DU game during the holidays". Know what I mean, Vern?

Mayhaps i should jump on my horse and ride over to the ol' Singleton place and ask what is going on with the Pest's hockey coverage. Just kidding - the Owl Mountain bridge is out and i don't wanna ride the cutoff (and don't have a horse either).
BTW, Anon@1:21 has the right idea and DU probably plays up the fact that there is no NHL team in FargoForks whenever they are recruiting against the UNDies AND just how bad it is for a scout to have to have to go there to see them play when they can bring the family skiing here instead, etc.

Sorry Anon at 6:43 - give me a day off and i get silly.
Dean Singleton, the editor or publisher of the Denver Post has a ranch about five miles from where i work in the summer. He has been seen around here from time to time and has been open and gracious - i could ask him about the changes in coverage for the Pioneers, and he would talk about it even though he is way far above it in the company.
The rest is simply a combination of cheap shots at Dakosota and a comment how being in Denver should be a big recruiting tool.
Sorry for the confusion - now back to reasonable comments.

Why no mention of the DU/Pro sumer day camp coming up? (other there than on Chambers blog). Any speculation on who might show up? I'm sure the Papparazi is anxiously awaiting. You think Murray will make it? Lee? Jackson?

Wondered about the DU-Pro Camp. I haven't seen anything.
