(above) TSN in Canada produced this biography of Bill Masterton
Bill Masterton won two national championships and was an All-American at the University of Denver in the early Sixties. In 1968 he suffered a head injury during a game against the Oakland Seals and is the only player in NHL history to die as a direct result of an on-ice incident during a game. Masterton's injury directly led to youth players' mandatory use of helmets and today every hockey player in the world wears a helmet during practices and games.

Sad story, great Pioneer.
Thanks for posting.
Hard to watch. Murray was crushed by the news. As if he'd lost a son. It's time to memorialize our immortals.
