what's going on this week w/ comments? they seem to (a) very very few for all the articles, and (b) disappear, and count goes back to zero..
??? Given this week's game, I would have thought this site would be swamped with both sides

For fans, a 4 game winless streaks bring on a certain malaise which can only be cured by kicking some tigger ass...until then, meh

I think its just further evidence that UND is DU's primary rival these days.

The jealousy continues

Any word on Bennett? Pios need his presence.

Gwoz said he liked the way Bennett looked on Monday. I think he'll be good to go.

My biggest problem is convincing Bubba to change the channel on the dayroom TV from Animal Planet to Pioneer Vision so we can watch the game. The second biggest problem is fishing the shards of glass out of the crawfish bisque.

UND is not DU's biggest rival. Please. 5-10 years of a good rivalry don't outweigh 50 years. I'm pretty sure students don't get especially fired up for UND, but they do for CC. I think you just get to a point with the DU-CC rivalry where everything's already been talked about. Play the game, see the intensity. And see DU kick CC's ass tomorrow.

Its helps a rivalry if both teams can win! Magness Arenas Section 6 and 7 will be loud tomorrow night! Go Tigers!

Since I have lots of time on my hands in solitary, let me just offer one observation: we've had way more than 5-10 years of rivalry with the Sioux. The greatest DU comeback I've ever seen was in a WCHA playoff game in '66. Winner advances to the FF. UND leading 4-1 after two. DU ties it in the 3rd and wins it in OT. We won a game against them in the old barn by scoring at 19:59 of the 3rd. Beat them 4-0 in the '68 NC game. And beat them in a more recent NC game, too. Somehow in all of that, no mention of CC. In my day, CC was a joke, a virtually guaranteed 8 points a year, except for the year they hid under their beds and refused to play us. None of that is meant to take sides in the "who is DU's greatest rival" debate only to point out we've been battling the Sioux, for very high stakes, way longer than 10-15 years.

Great summary Old Pio. That's why I love to hear old stories. Puts everything in perspective. Someone in one of the other threads made a sarcastic comment about being really "upset" to not have to hear your old stories since you are banned over on USCHO.

I guess he can live in his ignorant bliss.

I'm serving a two week sentence. I'll be back to teaching the children in no time.

If I may add an "old" story of my own since I believe I fit in that category.

A bunch of us went down to The Broadmoor on a Saturday night many moons ago. Since it was a last minute decision, the only seats left were in the CC student section on the back row. Four of us went down with plenty of "antifreeze" to keep us warm. By the third period, DU had clinched the win. Not one to keep ours mouths shut, we told the CC students in vivid terms how much CC sucks. A fight of course ensued in the stands. Secuirty told us to take it out to the parking lot. On the way to the parking lot, we figured we need some more antifreeze to fight off the cold. The CC fans followed us and the fight erupted in the parking lot. The Springs police had to break it up only after we, I am happy to say, had taken care of the CC students. Those students are probably working as greeters at Wal-Mart

Good for you. Makes an old con proud. However, I'm guessing Greeter in training is more likely. How recent was this beatdown? Are there still warrants out for you in the Springs? Sitting in the stands with a bunch of CC students, you're lucky they didn't try to Sandusky you.

The beat down was over 40 years ago so the statute of limitation has expired. You know how those students from a liberal arts school are, a little light in loafers.

Hey CC fans....you suck and you're mom's a whore! It's all your fault! Those of you shmucks smart enough to somehow figure out which way is north on I-25 and who actually make it to DU for the game - do us a favor and don't stink up the joint with weed, OK? And leave your skanky-ass girlfriends home, please.

The game old pio was talking about where DU beat UND at 19:59 of the third I remember well. I believe Tom Miller scored the goal

old pio said...

Yup. Tom got off two shots in the last couple of seconds. One hit the side of the net, the other one went in. George Morrison got an assit and maybe Don Thiesson. Most exciting end to a DU game, ever (or at least in contention).

I'll save my comments until after my first "tebow" tommorw night. Also, DU SUCKS! Good night ladies and Viz...

6,400 fans at the DU basketball opener tonight - very nice turnout (Magness capacity is 7,200 for hoops) to see DU beat Portland State, 69-61.

Would love to see 6400 in the house tomorrow for CC (that would break the attendance record of 6,199 set in 2004 vs BU. Magness capacity for Hockey is 6,026

I'll be there at the game tomorrow .. just watched DU basketball (mens) ... hey, this isn't prior years' teams .. they run and gun, they shoot, they drive ... this might be fun! A lot more entertaining than prior games I've seen. Go Pios.

DU Women's hoops also crushed Loyola Marymount yesterday, so it sounds like they are on the upswing as well.

In hockey, DU and North Dakota have played in the National Championship game four times. DU won in 1958, 1968 & 2004. North Dakota won in 1963.

CC last won in Nineteen Fifty-Seven. :-)
