DU Uses Magness Mojo To Crush Tigers

The University of Denver hockey team served notice that the recent scoring woes experienced in recent weeks without star winger Beau Bennett was in the rear view mirror. DU exploded for five goals in less than half a game and then hung on for dear life to record a dramatic 5-4 victory over Colorado College.

Magness Arena was rocking from the get-go thanks to a energized student section and pep band that kept things lively while DU's lead was under siege in the third period.

A lobster was tossed on the ice in the third period after CC's fourth goal.  Not sure if crustacean escaped from the DU locker room after the recent trip to Boston or if the Crimson Club is now serving four-star meals with white table cloth service.  Either way, the DU maintenance staff was called in to remove the anthropod.

Great game and great win. Bennett played a monster game. I understand yah have to protect a lead but DU played on their heels that 3rd period and was lucky to escape with a W.
Magness was rocking in that 2nd period!

Look out incoming lobster!

The game was fun and I hand a nice time. However, I hate to say it but... the DUmb fans were nothing short of ugo! They were all very nice and all but I had Planet of the Apes style nightmares.

What's with Murray? Played great at times, but let in some soft goals. ADD? Seems to take coffee breaks at inopportune times. Will it be possible to win a game 1-0? I doubt it with Adam in the net.

Random Thoughts/Observations:

The DU Pep Band's pregame march got a shout out in the Colorado Springs Gazette Blog. Link posted.
------
The DU Student Section sold out last Monday, after just eight hours. When DU built Magness the student section was supposed to be the entire South End. Perhaps by next Winter it will become a reality.
------
CC brought 400-500 fans and they filled much of the upper North End. Good to see.
------
Best game ever for the DU student section & pep band? If not, damn close.
-----
DUGS went through 150 lbs of food in less than an hour and was out by 6 PM.
-----
Pregame Pep Band March was very popular with the fans. We have a video that we'll post ASAP.
-----
DU student organizations raised money for St. Judes & the Up Til Dawn events at the pregame BBQ. :-)

Did CCtig and Mexico consummate their short bus romance?

Was CCtig's oxygen supply to his brain short circuited at birth?

Great skating with weak goaltending. Solid goaltending would have given about 2 to 1 D.U. The Plying Finn was one goal away.
An exciting game for sure.

Never a dull moment last night. DU had the big lead and then had to hang on against a very skilled CC team. The 3rd period clock just couldn't move fast enough. The goaltending was mediocre for sure, but it sure was nice to get the W and end the recent skid. Great crowd and great atmosphere last night.

Having Bennett back in the lineup was big. He's a dynamic presence and seems to open up the ice for everyone else. I thought he and the rest of the team responded very well. And I thought Mayfield's hit was clean. Hard, but clean.

not as many fights as I would have expected for a rivalry game

Yes, it was a suprisingly-low penalty game, too. I felt bad for future New York Islander, Mr. Mayfield. He just got a little over-excited in one of his first big college games from what I saw.... he'll learn how to control his play during those bigger moments as time goes on...comes with experience I guess.

About the lobster - bad idea, dumbass! This isn't Joe Louis Arena. Why would you #1 buy a ticket to a game, #2 buy a lobster, cook it (and not eat it), #3 stick it in your pants or purse for an hour beforehand.... then be the only jackass in a crowd of 6 thousand people to throw it .... and then get kicked out and not get to see the end of the game.

This is Colaradah! Not lobster country. Some mountain oysters would have been more apropos.

The lobster was thrown from the Crimson Club, the second most expensive section in the arena...

All I can say is, for health and safety concerns, do your best to avoid the cc short bus crowd...tig, mexico, randy may and such are some contagiously diseased, inbred folk who don't understand the term immunization

World Arena North huh huh huh, Denver State Roadunnners huh huh huh.The sheer brilliance that spouts from Tigsy's underdeveloped Brain. Oops wouldn't want to offend Dubbie 31,they seem to have quite the Bromance.
