DU Recruit Selected In 1st Round Of USHL Draft

2014 University of Denver ice hockey recruit Dylan Gambrell [5’10, 154 lbs.] was selected with the 11th overall pick in the first round of the USHL Futures Draft by the Dubuque Fighting Saints. Gambrell is from Seattle but spent this past season playing AAA hockey in Denver for the Colorado Thunderbirds.

Dubuque Director of Scouting Bobby Kinsella has this to say about Gambrell: “Dylan’s a very offensive-minded player, but he’s sound in all aspects of the game as well. He has a knack for scoring goals, but he’s a two-way-player, he competes hard, and he’s dynamic in one-on-one situations. He’s committed to Denver, and he figures to be a great offensive threat in this league. "

The USHL Futures Draft selects players who usually will not play in the USHL during the 2012-13 season. The 2012 Futures Draft restricts teams to selecting players who have a 1996 birth year. These players are "protected" on an Affiliate List through the 2012-13 season while they continue to develop at a lower level of hockey during the season.
