Denver Post: DU Suspends Two Players

From: Denver Post
by Mike Chambers

University of Denver hockey players Larkin Jacobson and Juho Olkinuora have been suspended for four games for violating team rules, Pioneers coach George Gwozdecky said. The suspensions stem from separate incidents and will include Saturday's exhibition game against the University of British Columbia at the Pepsi Center [read entire article].

Goon's blog says this is "karma".

I say there is a huge difference between suspension for a 'violation of team rules' vs a suspension prompted by a police arrest or citation.

Apples and Oranges. DU players get suspended when they break team rules, but I don't believe there has ever been a police arrest or police citation of a DU hockey player since Gwozdecky has been in Denver (1994).

On an entirely different note...anyone got pics of the new masks for this season?

Comes back and bites ya in the ass. Cops or no cops this is karma at it's best.

The DU players were probably suspended for not watching the Debate.

Karma? Uh, Gwoz suspends a player or 2 to start the season practically each year. It's his way of showing there are consequences and teaches a lesson before anything truly embarrassing happens; tossing a lawn mower, peeing in an elevator, getting arrested or going to the hospital, etc...

Please DG lecture us on which teams have superior character again. Guaranteed they didn't get 4 games for being late to practice...

DU players have superior character. Notrth Dakota players have inferior character.

I expected DU players to slip up at some point but not as quickly as this. It's hilarious how coy you are about it.

Number of arrests or citations of North Dakota hockey players since 2005: 15

Number of arrests or citations of DU hockey players since 1994: 0

It's NO contest in terms of character.

Last year Chris Knowlton was suspended for 6 games to start the year. He came back to have his best year.

Gwoz doesn't talk and neither do the people who know what happened,

Gwoz runs a tight ship. Hack n' tool lets the inmates run his prison yard.

Gwoz: 2 NC's...stool boy: 0 NC's...

I understand the Sioux fans' excitement, but this really isn't karma or anything unexpected. Obviously, we don't know what they did to get suspended, but I can't remember a single season where Gwoz hasn't suspended a player or two before the season starts. Every DU fan knew this was coming.

10:20 was spot on with his analysis.

Which brings me to my next thought...next year LetsGoDU should start a preseason pool to pick who gets suspended before the season starts and the number of games. Half the profits would go the winner and half could go towards the LetsGoDU private jet.

DG's a hack with zero credibility. Lets see how many stories he can post to bury this as far down the list a possible. He's already up to 3 in 4 hrs. Ps..... Eat s$$t, DG .

Comes around goes around.

Sorry, Siouxees. Suspending two reserve players for 'team rules violations' is IN NO WAY equal to the long stream of police actions (15 since 2005!) against UND players in Grand Forks.

Getting to 15 arrests/citations in 7 years is a record that hockey program can match. We are still waiting for our first arrest in 20 years....

Oh DU fans, trying to play down suspension of your own players. Could you be any bigger sanctimonious pricks than you guys already are? Nevermind, that is a resounding yes.

There isn't a comparison going on. What is being pointed out, which none of you seem to understand is that not any college team is innocent. Not even your precious DU angels(lol).

PS At least Hakstol/UND had the balls to detail violations. Quite funny how Gwoz labels everything simply as "Violation of team rules."

dggoddard said...

State/public schools like North Dakota, Minnesota, Sconnie and the like have to release the information or the media will go get a Freedom of Information request.

Privates schools don't have release anything.

Anonymous said...

Thanks, DG. Pretty much my point. You'll never see Gwoz detail what his players did because he can keep it private. Must be nice. I wonder how much dirty laundry DU has that they've been able to keep under the rug since they're a private school?

Anonymous said...

I'll take 'sanctimonious prick' over 'criminals' any day of the week!

Haktsol has NO balls at all. If he (or his bosses) had balls, you would have changed that cesspool culture by now and you would not have the same alcohol arrest problems you have at UND every frickin' year...

Hakstol is still at the helm of a program that has seen 15 police violations since 2005.

If he had balls, he'd stop recruiting kind of characters that continue to get arrested year after year. If his bosses had any character, they'd clean house and start again.

No way DU would keep a coach that had 15 player arrests on his watch, NCAA titles or not. No frickin' way...

Those are some really nasty criminal acts those Sioux players have accumulated over the years. Minor in possesions, pissin in an elevator, and the such. The DUI's are the ones that I have a problem with other than that whoopdeedo. But like was stated,DU is a private school and doesn't have to release any of their transgressions. I can only imagine.

Anonymous said...

IF DU's transgressions were Denver police-related, we'd all know about them.

DU can't cover that up.

Tabrum's also working a leg injury, so that's 3 players out. Time to strut your stuff, Freshmen.

Anonymous said...

Holy chit lol. A Sioux fan calling another fan base sanctimonious. That sir, is freaking hilarious.

Any fan base on USCHO would agree that Sioux fans are by far the worst at pretending that their team and players are saints while everyone else is dirty. That your program is just as clean as everybody else's.

In the minds of the Sioux, you haven't made a dirty hit in the last century. But you get dirty hits on you every week, scratch that, every period. There are still many Sioux fans that will defend the Malone hit on Martin. Period.

5BWest said...

They were probably 5 minutes late to practice or struggled on a chemistry test. No problem.

Anonymous said...

Holy chit lol, a DU fan still not getting my point.

Anon @ 6:32: You bring up shit that has been re-hashed like !@#$ing crazy. I already established that UND's players aren't perfect.

No team is "clean" as you put it. Not even your perfect little angel Pioneer squad. THAT is what I'm trying to get at. Wow.

Anonymous said...

8:11, 6:32 here. I get your point (you actually made several).

If your current point is that no team is perfect, I agree. It's such an obvious statement I didn't think it was worth discussing.

My point, not sure how you missed it, was that Sioux fans should not be ones to call other fans sanctimonious. We can all be sanctimonious at times, but if any team's fans define that term, it is the Sioux. It's not even like the pot calling the kettle black. It's more like Sally Struthers calling Britney Spears fat. Sure, Britney could could lose a few, we all could, but come on.

Ahhhahahahah. The golden childs at DU got in a little trouble and the UND folks get to throw it back in their face. Where's that clown miller and oldpieface. Suck it you wankers!!!

Anonymous said...

Took us two to three weeks to find out that the Sioux issues were police related....

Anonymous said...

Pot calling the kettle black....
Come on Gwoz....let us know what happened. Grow some balls you f&cking pussy!! Hopefully they raped Chris Matthews.

Are North Dakota fans too dense, as to not understand the difference between FIFTEEN police incidents in FIVE years in North Dakota, and ZERO police incidents in EIGHTEEN YEARS in Denver? If so, god help them. That knucklehead at the helm of the UND program is a perfect representation of their largely knucklehead fan base.

Anonymous said...

Not dense. We don't waste our time worrying about other programs like you pathetic assholes do. We're just here calling you out. Good luck this year. Damn you looked good against UBC. Damn I am impressed. So did you losers muster up 500 people to go to the game at Pepsi? Did you have more than 40 students there? Good luck cracking the top ten homos.

When you lose Gwoz, and your program crumbles, you'll be begging for Hak. Suck it homos. Look forward to Feb when I can taunt you all again. Can I please watch your player jersey pump at their own home game again?? That was awesome last year. Looking forward to more UND home games at Magness.

DO you ever see DU fans shitting on Sioux Sports? No. Why? We have respect for your site, no matter what shit you write about DU there.

Why don't you just stop insulting us here on a DU site?
