Gameday: News & Notes From Around PioNation

BREAKING NEWS: Not sure if any DU hockey players live in the Nelson Hall dormitory on campus, although its possible some Freshman players do.  If so, they missed some sleep last night.  The entire dorm was evacuated at 3:30 this morning due to carbon monoxide alarms going off.

Goodness... at least DU didn't cheap out on the CO detectors.

If they're telling the firefighters that a small fix to the boiler will do it rather than replace it or whatever; I think I would be DEMANDING they replace the boiler instead if I lived in that hall.

It appears that dmann, ronmexico and old pio have been banned on USCHO.

I don't think anyone was banned, I'm not. Several of our posts have mysteriously disappeared :'(

Too bad.

You mean we still get to see old pee’s drunken ramblings during the game tonight? Something about why his fraternity brothers made him wear an onion on his belt. No, not a white onion ….

Wouldn't want to miss that.

I’m not even sure why old p was brought up. He wasn’t even part of the exchange they deemed inappropriate that I’m aware of. Maybe he lost it on me before I had the pleasure of seeing it and they decided to delete everyone’s posts?

FYI everyone,

I'm going to be at the Loyola Marymount/San Diego State game tonight. My first look at former Pioneer Vic Venasky behind the LMU bench. Will try and give a report tomorrow (game has a 9pm PST start time - do't ask me why, it just does).

I think dmann made a Paternoesque comparison with old pio's lockerroom joke. Old Pio may have gone nuts considering his Penn State ties but I never got the chance to see the reply. Probably for the best. Lockerroom humor isn't really appropriate so soon after the Sandusky convictions.

Old Pio went to Illinois before tranderring to DU.

He has no ties to PSU.

Old pio’s comment about all athletes wanting to get their “willie” on camera was more along the line of Brett Farve than Sandusky. Not funny. But then again when is he? I don’t see why he’d get so upset but then again I think it was appropriate to remove Paterno’s statue while he touts the virtues of the “don’t tell” head coach. Old pio tends to be unreasonable on anything to do with this subject, perhaps to the point of getting banned over on USCHO.

He's over there posting on USCHO Cafe threads so I doubt he's banned.

Illinois has football – who knew?

With Illinois only win this season being over Charleston Southern, I'm not sure you’d say they have a football team.

Hey DG,

I'm way behind the curve on this one.. What happened with Beau Bennett? I see he's on the season tickets but seems to be playing in the Penguins AHL system? Sudden move?

Derpy said...

Way behind the curve, he left back in April around the frozen four time. lol

I was also unaware that Illinois has a football team.

I agree with Dmann that old pio's "joke" was creepy rather than funny. Sort of like the man himself. I still don't believe he should be banned from USCHO or here though.

Wow. Surprised to hear that Beau is gone too.

Looking forward to seeing D. Shore and Zucker play tomorrow night. Since they didn't play last weekend, I'm assuming they are suspended with Larkin and Jussi and will be eligible on Saturday. With both of them as upperclassmen this year we should be unstoppable.

By the way, also saw a tweet from Bozak. He was back in Denver watching the team practice. He talked about his two years of eligibility remaining so we might see him suit up tonight as well.

DON'T FEED THE TROLL!

Not very good at fake trolling if you know to refer to him as "Jussi" and not "Juho"

Freshmen live in Halls and J-Mac, with a handful living in Towers.

I know a lot of hockey players end up living in some of the lesser-known university owned apartments around the Ritchie Center after their freshman year.

Yeah, they might want to figure out that CO thing pretty soon. Funny that this stuff is happening in the new dorm, rather than the old ones.

Random thought: JMac is a cool and distinctive building, and I hope they keep it around. Halls & Towers--I have been waiting for them to do something with these buildings. They don't really match the rest of the campus. Don't know if they can reface buildings of that style, or whether they would have to start over. But with all the campus improvements, it's surprising that these high rises in such a visible location still look the same as always.

Looking forward to seeing Jussi in net this weekend.

Halls was the place to be. More people, closer to hockey games, Sturm Hall, we had all of the athletes...J-Mac sucks.
