Mile High Sports Breaks Down Gold Pan Rivalry

(above) The DU-CC Rivalry is the second oldest continually played series in college hockey behind Michigan vs. Michigan State
Mile High Sports has an excellent article this week on the Gold Pan Series with interviews of the coaches and great historical antidotes.  They also mentioned that it was the most intense sports rivalry in Colorado.  Check it out.

FYI: The annual University of Denver Student Hockey Season Ticket Campout starts today. Student tickets go on sale at 8 AM on Saturday morning.

What! Where's the infamous CC Sucks banner dropped from the old Fieldhouse rafters? Has LGDU gone PC?

Ho Hummm.... this is old news - and quite sadly, a thing of the past. DU's rivalry now, is with North Dakota - that's the bottom line. A changing of the tides, if you will. There were some great years, great memories, great hockey and some awesome games with the Tigers.... but let's call it what it is - Denver vs. NoDak is the big ticket now.

As a sioux fan this is amusing. We dont raise our ticket prices when du comes here. We dont consider you rival more of a little step brother who we play around with. Or if you will a cat playing with a mouse, bitch slapping it around. Go ahead say what you will about beating us in a regional, or the 05 nc. Since then you have won one ncaa game. We have been to how many frozen 4's, how many broadmoors? Thank you very little. Little coon hat fans.

Of those Frozen Fours the Sioux have been to since '05, how many have they won? I recall being at a game in Denver where the Sioux played Boston College. It was 4-0 after the first when I left to drink since it was more amusing than watching the same Sioux fan assholes who were telling us to go home trying not to cry as their season went swirling down the toilet.

And you have been none. And where were was your team at that frozen 4? Playing host to the sioix lmao.

$50 per seat this year!

If you don't consider us a rival, why do you spend your time posting comments on our blog? Do you do the same thing for St. Cloud or Tech?

CC is a fun rivalry. UND is a brutal rivalry.

You're right, there's nothing more fun than bitch slapping a Sue fan when they disrespect the National Anthem. Now that's a rivalry!

Ouch 9:03. That's pretty embarrassing what 12:23 just did to you. Time for you to put your big girl panties on and admit you were wrong.

Hey 12:49 - don't say that too loud, because I CLEARLY heard some of the Denver hardcore fans who were in attendance at the Pepsi Center... yell, ".....and the home of the.... PIONEERS....." last Saturday night. I'm all DU; and I'll ALWAYS say Scrioux the Sioux.....but don't be calling out those retarts for ruining Francis Scott Key's song - because out fans did it too. Just sayin; GO DU!

Wow, people easily getting troll baited. Lol.

Just goes to show that the DU/UND rivalry is a big deal and it's going to become even bigger when both teams move to the NCHC.

Cause lets face it, most years it is going to be Denver and North Dakota fighting it out for 1st place in the conference. No offense to the other NCHC teams but that is how it'll be and it'll only intensify the rivalry between the two teams.

The DU vs. North Dakota rivalry has nothing on DU-CC. Guys, there is such a thing as history, and the fact that DU has kicked North Dakota's butt in a couple of meaningful games, and the fact that there have been some injuries in recent games, doesn't mean that DU vs. North Dakota is number one. Many DU students, for example, probably don't know that North Dakota even has a hockey team (sad, I know.) But everyone knows that CC sucks, and that will always come back to being DU's #1 rivalry, despite some fluctuations along the way.

I think the rivalry is similar is the way FS23 describes the Sioux rivalries. To die hard Sioux fans, DU is already, or quickly becoming their biggest rival. To the casual fan, the Gophers will always be the biggest rival.

For DU diehards, the Sioux already are, or are quickly becoming the most hated rival. For the general population, CC will always be the biggest rival.

@3:46

You mean that people that read this blog might actually care about Sue fans but the fans that actually go to the games are just annoyed by the green wigs and disrespectful attitude of the half-witted Canadian cousins?
