DU Alum Jason Zucker Injured By An Illegal Hit

Correy Perry on the Anaheim Ducks will face an afternoon phone hearing today with NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan over his hit Tuesday night on the Minnesota Wild's Jason Zucker.

Zucker had tapped the puck behind the Ducks' net and was looking the other way when Perry hit him late. His shoulder appeared to make direct contact with Zucker's head.

Zucker was on the ice for about three minutes before he sat up with assistance.

He left the game and didn't return. In the locker room after the game Zucker was seen chatting up teammates and signing autographs but was unavailable for comment.

Perry was assessed a five-minute major for interference and a game misconduct at 4:21 of the second period.

Best wishes to Jason.

Great to hear he was carrying on normally after the game in the dressing room.

Hope there are not lingering concussion issues from the hit.

I'm not condoning the hit but I guarantee you Zucker was running his mouth the whole game.

Thanks for that guarantee. To assert that a rookie NHL player would be "running his mouth the whole game" is ridiculous. This is not a DU-CC game--it's a guy trying to stay on an NHL roster in his rookie season. It was a cheap f-ing hit, and Jason needs to look out for those a bit more.

That was a bush-league chickenshit hit. Blind-side and to the head--that's exactly the type of hit that needs to be eliminated from hockey.

If a guy is running his mouth and needs it shut, hit him square. Or drop the gloves and challenge him that way. Be a man about it. Don't be a punk and blindside him with a hit to the head.

Perry got a four game suspension for it. Seems pretty reasonable to me. Let's hope Zucker is ok after this.

Is there any footage of the Weircioch fist fight a couple days ago? I'm curious who won that bout.

You can see Wiercioch's scrap (and all NHL fights) at hockeyfights.com. It wasn't much of a fight, luckily for Patrick. McQuaid is a tough customer.

Speaking of injuries, has anyone heard anything about Didier? We were terrible over winter break when he was hurt. We only have 6 D to begin with.

Jordan, my thoughts exactly. I wondered why nobody else has brought up the fact that our winter slump happened to be the same time as when Didier was out with his injury. Coincidence? I don't think so. He may not score a lot of goals, but man, watch that kid some night and you'll see what a play maker he is, he blocks a ton of shots.
