FREE HOCKEY TICKETS FOR SUNDAY'S GAME

Ticket demand for DU's Final WCHA game is soft, so DU is giving tickets away.

The University of Denver is offering free tickets to this Sunday's game (March 10 - 11 AM) against Alaska-Anchorage.
Here's how it works:

Go to:
http://www.denverpioneers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=18600&ATCLID=205242712

Click on "enter promo code" and enter: SEASONTIX

Choose Sunday's game and you'll be asked if you want the $18 seats or the free seats. [CC alums, chose the $18 seats] - [DU fans, if you want more than two tickets together you can get two FREE tix and then buy additional tickets for $18].

There is a limit of two free tickets and there is a $4 charge for ordering on the internet.

The offer is good while seats last.

Too bad the Sunday afternoon game isn't selling out. I'd think its far more covenient that burning up a Saturday night.

Also unfortunate that perhaps the last WCHA game every played in Colorado isn't drawing more interest.

Thanks dg! I'll be sure to pick up a pair and have all my fellow UND fans do the same! Then we will all attend the game as a typical DU fan. An empty seat.

I'd rather be an empty seat than a Sioux fan any day of the week.

everyone knows Sioux fans don't have $4.

Got word from the DU ticket office that if you are a season ticket holder you are welcome to grab two extra tickets to give away to friends or family on Sunday.

I would call this a bargain. Nice!

Never thought I'd see the day that DU would have to give away hockey game tickets.

Sorry - "Unknown" is Timothy Wurtz, class of '73.

I think that the reason for the poor ticket sales is the fact that they had to change the game to Sunday at noon (the poor quality of the opponent doesn't help either). At least they changed it so that the men's basketball game on Saturday night against LA Tech will get a good sized crowd in Magness.

Given UND sells out their arena and DU is having to resort to giving tickets away, it would seem Pioneer fans are the ones who don't have $4.

Its easy to pay for Sioux hockey tickets when the payment on the double-wide is $83.76 a month. :-)

Nice retort, DG. Well played.

As a non-season ticket holder, I'm psyched about the bonus tickets. Attendance has been pretty good this year. But Sunday noon games against a relatively dismal opponent don't do much to get the tickets sold. Especially when our Pioneers have been inconsistent on the ice this year. Glad that they're reaching out to the fans with this promotion, instead of letting the tickets go to waste.

I've been bagging on Sioux fans for a long time. Its second nature to me.

In other news.

DU alum Beau Bennett was sent back down to the AHL last night.

At least he got an NHL goal out of his stint with the Pens.

Interesting that somehow the perceived "level" of opponent is so oft repeated here to explain away DU attendance problems. The ongoing attendance issues at DU are much more readily explained by the fact that most sports fans in Denver have no clue that the University of Denver even exists. They have other choices that are interesting to them. I'm sure Western Michigan will be a big draw in the future though, right?

As for this weekend ... real hockey fans turn up regardless of the opponent. Especially when they have every reason to expect their team to win twice. The sophistication of UofD supporters and their relative merit to claim to be "hockey fans" is now and will forever be questionable.

DU just announced starting time change. Game will start at 11 AM instead of Noon.

Beau probably needed to pick up his dry cleaning and a change of clothes. :-)
