(above) Despite Spring Break, Joe Scott wants the Magness Maniacs in the House tonight
FREE TICKETS FOR DU STUDENTS

The University of Denver may be on Spring Break, but University of Denver basketball coach Joe Scott has stepped up and offered to purchase tickets for all University of Denver students who show up at the Ritchie Center box office today by 5 PM with a valid DU Student ID [grad students as well].

Its a terrific gesture.
Please pass the word ASAP via social media, Facebook, Twitter, blogs & text messaging.

Please pass the word around PioNation via social media.

Needless to say its a great gesture by the Coach and proves how important he thinks our students are to the game night atmosphere at Magness.

Doesn't hurt that every time the students show up en masse the Pioneers have piled up some big victories.

Class move by Coach Scott. He is doing all the right things to create a buzz. It will be interesting with school out of session to see how many people in the community care about D-1 basketball. I hope they do because we have a chance to be a very good basketball program with this Coach and team for quite some time.

Just went over and bought my tickets. There are still great seats available, including right behind the DU bench in rows 1-5.

I wish the people of this city would give DU more support. DU does A LOT for Denver - Large employer, large city talent creator, serious community engagement with education and social work in the schools and in poor neighborhoods, DU student spending supports local businesses, arts and sports events programming for the community, day camps for kids, commencements for high schools, weddings, conferences, etc.

Yet you ask the average Denverite and it's all about DU being a bunch of rich kids, not worthy of their support...It's too bad the community can't get more behind DU.

You bring up some great points, Read the "comments" in the Boone article in Westword those criticisms come through loud and clear.

Westword Article

DU's administration should be focusing their energy towards fixing the PR problems at the local and national level and leave the mascot debate to the students and alumni.

You can try to do all the PR you want, but Denver supports Metro, CU, and CSU.

Word travels fast when DU Campus Police prevent the arrests of DU students from Denver Police. When you hear these stories numerous times, it's clear.

11:53, I'd love to hear some specific examples of times when DU Campus Police prevented DPD from arresting DU students. Thanks in advance.

The people who have deal with the clean up of DU students are people associated with the other schools and the community.

For example: It's Mitt Romney talking about the 47% with the staff (the help) still all around. It's cognitive dissonance and a disconnect from reality.

This is the same paranoid clown who is raving in the comments section of the westword article about the police, etc. Has some weird fascination with DU and the police, apparently.

Metro State attendance - 1,943/2,500 = 77% capacity

DU attendance - 2,094/7,200 = 29% capacity

Glad Metro is doing well. But, the reality is that most of DU's students and faculty are on break either skiing or home in either the West Coast or East Coast. Metro students are still sleeping in the basement or in the bedroom next to mom and dad.

The reality is that Metro students also work.

Comments like the one above makes it easy for people in the community not to like DU. Just keep digging.

My point was more tongue in cheek. Comparing attendance during school holidays is not a very practical way to compare programs. I was trying to have some fun with my comment -- not intending to degrade Metro or its students. I think both schools serve an important purpose and glad to see both doing well.
