Seriously front loaded schedule, but I like the fact that the team is away in December when the students are off campus on break.

Looks like Montgomery will have an easy 1st year schedule, with exception of the NoDak and St. Cloud series. Will this mean he'll be more harshly judged if the team fails to gain any traction and doesn't produce?

Really looking forward to seeing "Denver play the Broncos". No pun intended, but I call Western Mich as the "dark horse" of the NCHC's first year. I think the Broncos are going to surprise alot of these other legacy WCHA teams.....

No coach should be judged until he's had a chance to get his own recruits in the program and we can see how well he can motivate and get performance out of them - in other words, we should know in by years 3-5 if he can be effective at this level.

Western Mich. has made a serious commitment to div.1 hockey. They have hired a top (expensive) coach and are recruiting aggressively. They will be a serious contender in the NCHC.

If Jimmy doesn’t get to the NCAAs the first year, all the Gwoz talk will resurface. Peg won’t be able to hang on to her job if DU doesn’t make the big dance for two years in a row.

Peg didn't fire Gwoz. It was the Board of Trustees.

I don't disagree with what 2:01 says, but I think we should give Monty 5 years before we evaluate him either positively or negatively (baring national championships or 5 win seasons). 5 years is almost a little bit early too, but that at least give Monty a chance to have his first freshman class play as seniors.

I hope Monty's new system is to lay off the two year wonders and recruit four year team first players.

Four years of mediocrity isn’t what Jimmy or the program needs. Does anyone think DU won’t be the last place team in the NCHC for years to come?

With all the kids jumping ship, Monty’s recruits will be playing sooner than later. DU isn’t close to a full roster at the present time. Monty will be scraping up any kid that can skate for the upcoming season and may have to offer up a 4 year scholarship to do it. 3:33 may get his/her wish for four year so/so players.

Looking at the schedule, I’m seeing maybe 3 wins including the exhibition game. University of New Brunswick, a split with Western Michigan, and DU pulls off an Alabama-Huntsville against one of the better teams. I see that the athletic department doesn’t anticipate DU getting past the first round of the playoffs as the schedule ends there.

Funny, because I know about 22 guys who play in Dubuque right now, who are thanking thier lucky stars that Monty is thier coach. And there's a number of USHL Coaches who are fishing and planting Petunias in thier front yards right now, while Monty is still working away.

With all of the gloom and doom predicted by the customary gutless anonymous types, I hear the sound of the ladies chorus from "Iolanthe":

“We are dainty
little fairies,
Ever singing, ever dancing;
We indulge in our vagaries
In a fashion most entrancing.”

Are you predicting a winning season Old P?

Anonymous said...

Old P,

Are you predicting that DU wins more than 3 games? Against which teams? Or does your little poem refer to you?

Anonymous said...

UND or CC troll, you should really pick a bigger number than 3 wins, it makes your trolling post way too obvious. Go with maybe 10 wins next time. Still horrible, but maybe foreseeable if we lose more recruits/current players and don't pick up anybody.

Anonymous said...

Maybe I'm not current but I thought we only lost one commitment so far. Did miss some others? Wouldn't be the first time.

Anonymous said...

DU should be able to get at least a split with Alaska.

Anonymous said...

Did anyone notice there are 3 fewer games and prices are $1.00 higher per seat per game?

Anonymous said...

If DU is relying on effort rather talent, the game against Air Force looks like a loss. You just can't outwork those cadets.

Fact is fact - and it is now written. Jim Montgomery, right now, is the best coach in the USHL. Last night his team won the Clark Cup AGAIN. Impressive.

Gwoz would gotten DU to the NCAAs, anything less has to be seen as a failure.

Anonymous said...

Failure, schmailure. Gwoz is gone. It's a new era in Pioneer hockey now, and you cannot judge a coach for at least 3-5 years, when a majority of his own recruits are in the program.

Be very happy with a .500 season next year. This team will have a new coach and an average talent level compared to previous DU teams. It would be great if Monty could do better than that, but I would not be surprised to see a losing season, as the losses of seniors and underclassmen is high, and the recruiting class is not one of DU's best....

8:30, do you think DU will ever post another winning season? Are you one of those who drank yourself into a coma and were looking for razor blades to slit your throat with, when you learned Gwozdecky was terminated? Have you ever heard the term, any given team, any given day? I'm sorry, but too many people are drowning in thier sorrows around here. So many so called fans have forgotten about the young men who actually wear the skates, other than I guess Nick, Scott, and Juho. COME ON people! We have a hockey team. Do you think these players think like you? Damn, if so, lets cancel the schedule.....put these kids in classes all day so they can di some good in society.....right? Yeah Sam.....sell your goalie pads....It's over. Oh, and sorry Danny D and Zach.......we don't think you stand a chance in hell. Is that the message we want to send to the DU team?? People = read my effing lips = Montgomery, and even your beloved Gwoz....DO NOT PLAY THE GAME! It will be OK....the sun will rise tomorrow......trust me.

With the Schwartz brothers gone, DU should be able to pick up at least one game against CC.

Anonymous said...

Old pio and I ain't no fairies, we're predicting DU goes undefeated for the season.

Anonymous said...

Wait, I mean't to say undefeated at home. They'll just need to split the road games to get to the NCAAs. Once in the playoffs there's no stopping them. Championship season and everyone forgets why there was such a fuss about firing The Gwoz.
