Craig Redmond's Son Is Top Prospect

(Left) Connor Redmond

Craig Redmond still holds several DU hockey records more than 20 years after his last game for the Pioneers. Craig was only 16 when he enrolled at DU and still holds the single season scoring record for a defenseman with 54 points. In 1983 he was named WCHA Freshman of the Year after his only season at DU.

He remains the only NHL 1st Round Draft choice to ever play at DU. He was drafted #6 overall by the LA Kings and later played for the Edmonton Oilers.

Now his son Connor is moving up the Bantam ranks and trying to decide between the WHL or college hockey. He's still a few seasons away but is already one of the top prospects for his age.

Craig Redmond's Dream Season At DU:

1982-83 34 games, 16 goals, 38 assists

I wonder how Redmond feels about his DU experience 22 years later...He played a lot at DU and seemed to get along with everyone, but I don't know if he made deep friendships here in Denver, or whether he ever came back to campus after leaving for the Candadian Olympic Team...

He certainly never held back his hard feelings about how many NHL teams treated him...

I think he may have been distantly related to Ralph Backstrom, too...

It would be cool to get his son if he's good enough....

Craig's two uncles (Mickey & Dick Redmond) were from Backstrom's home town and both played in the NHL. One of the uncles played with Backstrom on the Canadiens.

It would be nice to get some sons of former players. DU has recently missed out on the Zajacs (two sons to UND) and Carefoots (Cornell) of the world. Hopefully, he is on DU's radar.
