Mike Chamber's Blog has all the details on the goaltender rotation that will start the season.
DU freshman goalie Adam Murray won’t just be a game-day cheerleader and mop-up guy behind heralded junior Marc Cheverie, who started every game last season and was named to the all-WCHA second team. Interesting, from the news conference it appears that this has been planned since last spring. Sort of a gamble wouldn't you say.
No gamble at all.
Murray was just as highly recruited as Shore, Donovan, Wrenn or Ostrow.
He was highly recruited by Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan and Colorado College. He chose DU because of our track record of turning goaltenders in pros.
Its going to be fun watching him on Saturday night.
So the way to get him to come to DU was to promise him an opportunity to play immediately?
Not saying that this is what happened in this instance, but I can promise you that a Canadian major junior team would have done anything to take him off DU's hands at the 11th hour.
We live in a new era. If any player doesn't like his playing time, the coaches or his girlfriend he can bolt up North and be playing major junior hockey within 24 hours. See T.J. Fast & Keith Seabrook.
He's supposed to be a solid goaltender and I think it will benefit both of them throughout the season and I don't think we have anything to worry about. Also, it will help Murray going into next June's NHL Draft as he still has another year of eligibility.
I really like this platoon idea. Getting Murray between the pipes in real time is the best way to get the kid in game form.
