Sad that DU doesn't get a fraction of this attention during a normal weekend sportscast.

Talk about a sad commentary on our society. Mike Chamber's career is is getting a boost as he exploits his relationship with the Martin family. Chambers has climbed from relative obscurity doing puff pieces on high school and college athletes to the front page with Jesse Martin's injury. Who said being a reporter isn't sleazy?

You don't know what you are talking about Anon 9:08.Chambers is a class guy who has always strongly supported D.U.hockey. He has covered this tragic story accuratly ,which is what a reporter is supposed to do.His source for all of the information he released was Jesse's father- also cleared by Jesse's dad for publication. The only thing that is sleazy are your comments.

Cashing in on the hardship of others doesn't sound classy to me. Have you met Mike Chambers? I have. Classy is not a word that I would use to describe him.

by cashing in you mean doing his job?

Mike Chambers is a careful and thoughtful reporter. He takes his beat seriously, and is not afraid to write both the good and the bad.

He covered the story exactly the way a good beat reporter would. He had good sources and accurate reporting on an ever changing topic.

Nothing about it was sleazy.

I think what you’re trying to say is that the job of a reporter is sleazy not just the way Chambers did it. I’m not buying it.

The Post bears responsibility for checking the accuracy of the story. The Post did that. No one has argued that the facts aren’t true. Whether Chambers should have used a personal relationship to capitalize for his own gain in such difficult times is the real issue. As the Martin family struggles with life and life altering questions, should a reporter slither his way in for the story? Similar questions arise every day. Every time a reporter talks to a victim in an emotionally charged case. What made things worse here is the question of whether the Martins thought they were talking to a “’friend of the family” or a reporter.

Yes this is sad for Jesse and the Martin family, and even Malone. My heart goes out to them. But for Chambers, it’s a pay day.

Can someone clarify something for me? Why did Gwoz say that the hit was not a legal hit (sounds like he meant that it was illegal) in his press conference, but in this 9News report, he (along with some of the players) says that the hit was legal and that Martin had his head down? I realize that this clip was probably filmed on Monday and that DU had a chance to review the tape and feed George the right words to say, but this sounds way too political for me. UND is a rough environment to play in and when a player goes down like that, back up your player instead of being correct. Come on now...

"back up your player instead of being correct"

I call Bullshit!

Gwoz is in Martin's corner, always has been and continues to be. If you watch the game film, your comment makes absolutely no sense. If you knew what the coach has been doing you'd be ashamed of yourself for that comment!

is there a better video available on line of this hit? I just can't see it very well. From what I could see, it is really a full-out charge that pounded Jesse's head/neck area. How can that be a clean hit?
