An interesting posting in Mike Chambers Blog about the MacNaughton Cup and DU's run-up to the end of the regular season. The University of Denver has more hardware than any other program in the WCHA when you tally up MacNaughton Cups, Broodmoor Trophies and National Championships. Chambers interviewed Coach Gwozdecky about DU's strategy for the rest of the season.
Clearly the Coach wants the boys focused, fit and ready for the NCAA Tournament at the end of the season.

I absolutly, totally, completly agree with Gwaz. I have been singing this tune for the last three years and have expressed my beliefs to the right people.. Finally some one is listening.
The WCHA tournament is counter productive to optimizing our chances of getting to the frozen four. The team goes up to Minn. and plays in a highly emotional and racous weekend. They beat their brains out and then return on Sunday and ,with minimal decompression time, fly out on Wednesday to some remote out post like Albany,or Worchester Mass. and play a team that is highly charged up to beat this top rated team.
The 04 team was luckey enough to not make the WCHA tournament. They had a week off. The games that I saw in the Springs and then in Boston were the most emotional and reved up games I have ever seen the Pios play.
Two years later nobody remembers who won the Macnoughton but they sure remember who the NCAA champions were.
I know the team will play hard when the tournament starts here in Denver, but I would not mind Mich. Tech or other bottem team springing an upset.
actually, i kind of agree... by the time we were done getting swept up in the twin cities last year, we had a beat up team with a short week until they were off to the east coast. ideally, we win the macnaughton, broadmoor, then the ncaas, but if you have to choose one... it's ncaa champs or bust
IMHO, if Denver isn't one of the 2 teams in the NCAA Championship game this year - Gwozdecky will have all-but packed his suitcase for Pennsylvania
LOL...I really doubt Gwoz is heading to Pennsylvania. But keep up that fantasy...
Temp in State College, PA today 23 degrees and miserable, snow flurries, no sun.
DU is going to have to open up the checkbook. Wide.
Its really hard for big Athletic Programs like Ohio State & Penn State to justify playing their hockey coach $500,000 a year, when they have 30 other coaches who all feel they are underpaid.
Sure they pay their football coaches $1-3 million, but thats football.
