Chambers Looks Back At WCHA Scoring Leaders

Our favorite hockey scribe appears to have spent his day yesterday buried under a mountain of WCHA Media Guides.  We can now say with confidence that former DU star Vic Venasky led the WCHA in scoring as a Freshman in 1970-71.  In the same posting, Chambers lists every WCHA scoring leader since 1970.

In a later posting Chambers lists DU's all-time Freshman goal scorers, assist leaders and points leaders.

Lest we forget, only one WCHA writer voted for Jason Zucker as the WCHA Preseason Freshman of the Year.  And when Jesse Martin suffered his horrific injury, that same writer provided timely updates and bridged the divide between Jesse's family and the Denver community.  Mike Chambers, PioNation thanks you.

So everyon said Schwartz would be frosh of the year he isn't even in the top ten of scoring what a bust. Glad he went to cc.

I don't think Schwartz is a bust, he was out a few months with an injury suffered in the WJC for Team Canada. It would have been an exciting race between him and Jay Z for the scoring title and Frosh of the Year.

Yeah, defending a CC player is kinda painful...but take a look at Schwartz' PPG and then consider his ankle injury. He was a first rounder and stands only 5'10"...to be honest, the dude is a stud.

Had Schwartz not gotten hurt, he'd have run away with the scoring title. He's a great player.

swam is right. Schwartz is excellent. He will be on N.H.L. ice. Let's hope it is next year.

Wouldn't go as far to say that Schwartz would have run away with the title. He's a fantastic player, probably the best in the WCHA, but there's a lot that can happen over the course of a season.

Not totally comparable, but what if the Goal Czar got injured half way through his freshman year? Under the same Schwartz logic, we could have predicted that he would have had like 50 goals.
