Great use of the "upbeat" version of D-Rah. We tried to get the Athletic Department to play the song during games two years ago but they didn't like it.
Seems if you put the song to a great highlight package, it works.
It's good to know that the tradition continues at DU of students learning that CC sucks yesterday, today and of course tomorrow. I love the song, what's up with the AD not playing it?
The idea for a new version of "D-Rah" was the brainchild of University of Denver alum Darcy Kimmich, who is a big DU hockey fan. She convinced her musically oriented boss to do a rock track of DU's Fight Song. LetsGoDU readers are the first members of the public to see the video.
The lyrics were recorded by four current DU students over December break. Kimmich and her boss had the music track and lyrics mixed and the type set into a video.
So far the video and song have languished in the DU Athletic Department since January. It seems like they don't like it, but since very few staffers over there are DU grads, we wanted to get input from the DU Community.
Do you like the video or hate it. Could you see it being played at DU Athletic events? Would you like to see it played at DU Athletic events?
I am sorry, but that song is HORRIBLE! Didn't like it two years ago, don't like it now. Before anyone asks, yes, I have a masters degree in music technology, have performed in various ways for a lot of my life and own a local recording studio -- NOTHING like that would leave my studio, ever. If someone booked time and put their down payment, then came with this crap, I would refund their down payment and tell them to leave and not come back until they could respect the song and not butcher it in such a horrid fashion. In fact, I would go as far as to say that song sucks worse than CC.
Sorry to be so harsh, but butchering of a historic song should be considered a capital offense for any musician's career; It just doesn't pay proper homage.
Whew; what a relief to post something like this. You have redeemed yourself once again, DG! I'm just saying, sure seems like there's been an awful lot of Colorado Springs love on this blog recently because of the NCHC Headquarters.....Broadmore or not....CC SUCKS, and we will not forget that
That particular version of Drah doesn't tickle me.... but I DO like the initiative and I like the direction it's going in. If we were a true college town, as in Minneapolis or Madison or Ann Arbor.... I'd say how dare you mess with a school fight song. But given DU's student section well-documented quietness and ho-hum atmosphere sometimes..... just like bringing Boone back, I think Denver student-fans could use a new, upbeat, exciting and fun renovation of the fight song. Yes it's scared, yes it's historic. But, hearing the PA play it at half-volume during a game, watching the lyrics scroll across the jumbotron with the bouncing cursor to point out the words to the song, just isin't working.
The real issue here is... cheerleaders. That's what we need
The current Fight Song works fine. It just needs to be played with more volume and authority after every DU goal and when the team takes the ice. It dates from 1916 and connects old alums to new alums and current students .
Everyone knows the words by now and it's taught at freshman orientation. If you saw the video of the students standing on tables at Crimson and Gold Tavern last spring and singing it spontaneously at the top of their lungs after DU upset John Hopkins in NCAA Lax, you witnessed a special moment where spirit truly beat complacency. I t was awesome....
It would be kick ass to have this song play...volume increasing...and right at the end, the PA announcer chimes in, "YOUR DU PIONEERS!!!" as the team takes the ice.
everyone's dillusional, our fight song is horrible in general...look at a notre dame, michigan, ohio state, bc, and then us...it's terrible. That version is even worse, make's me cringe

Nice job on the video.
that's pretty funny! I wanna know who made the upbeat version of the song.

End. Of. Rant.
Anon, thanks for the technical analysis but it still sounds good to me.
Dang... fall quarter hasn't even started yet for the class of 2015... Indeed, we start incorporating the rivalry with the young'ns...
It's the young ones who will lead us to the promised land----Tampa
Here's the link to the "CC Sucks" video with the traditional version of D-Rah...

Prefer it with the traditional version. HOW MUCH LONGER TILL HOCKEY SEASON STARTS!?!

humorous - - but at end the color of Boone's shirt should be a DU color (Not CC tiger yellow)

Our DU fight song is actually very similar to "Hail Purdue" wich is similar vintage.
We just need to play ours loud and fast and we're fine...
Do we really care how it sounds so long as Kaley Rickert is singing? The girl is cute!
